These will be the new corona measures

‘Only together can we get corona under control.’ I can dream that slogan, and yet it doesn't seem to be working. We do not have corona under control at all. Far from it, in fact. It is so serious that the press conference scheduled for tomorrow evening has been moved to tonight, as infections continue to rise (there was even a record yesterday morning) and the ICUs are also filling up.

So yes, new measures. We (logically) can't avoid that anymore. Especially Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague are the problem cities, but the expectation is that there will also be national measures. And just like with the previous press conferences, some things are leaking out beforehand. Personally, I find that quite nice, as I always need a moment to process those measures. These measures are really going to change quite a bit. A summary of what we can expect according to NOS:

  • The hospitality industry will close at ten o'clock in the evening. No customers will be allowed in during the last hour. There is a good chance that during the last hour — which is also the current rules — the lights will already have to be on and the music off.
  • Working from home will again become the norm and this will also be enforced more strictly. Employers will be monitored more closely and in case of violations, temporary closure is among the options.
  • Sports matches will again be played without an audience, both professional matches and amateur matches.
  • Traveling to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague is only possible if it is necessary. There are exceptions to this, which we will hear tonight.
  • Contact professions will have a registration obligation, which is already the case in the hospitality industry. So for example, at the hairdresser, beautician, and massage salons, you now also have to provide your details.
  • Shopping carts will again be mandatory in the supermarket, which will be disinfected beforehand.
  • The number of people you can be with will also change. It is speculated that indoors you may be with a maximum of 30 people (in the hospitality industry with groups of 4 and one and a half meters distance between tables), but there will also be changes in domestic settings.

In broad terms, this is what has leaked out so far and I find it quite a lot.

Secretly, I am also afraid that earlier closure of the hospitality industry will backfire, as people will then start socializing and partying at home, because ‘much more is allowed’ there. And no, of course, that is officially not allowed, but how are you going to enforce that? To be continued tonight...
