This anti-racism video by Meghan Markle is resurfacing now

You may wonder if the global protests would have arisen if the tragic death of George Floyd had not been captured on video. Did it really have to come to this to achieve change? Is this what they call: when the calf has drowned, one fills in the well?
Now that the world is in shock from the brutal American police violence, more old wounds are being opened. Racism is not ‘new’, but the fact that it is everywhere in the news is. Take this campaign video from 2012, in which Meghan Markle, wearing her ‘I won’t stand for racism’ shirt, tries to fight for a better world.
Meghan, daughter of a white father and a black mother, says that her biraciality has made her the woman she is today. ‘Most people could never really place me, because I didn’t necessarily look black or white. And so I felt like an outsider for a long time. I also received very unpleasant, hurtful words thrown at me. Although that affected me tremendously, it also shaped me.’
Meghan (then still an actress in Suits) continues: ‘A few years ago, I heard someone say the N-word to my mother. That made me think. Besides being personally affected by racism, our country and actually the whole world is infected with it. I am incredibly proud of my heritage, but I hope that when I eventually have children, people will be a bit more ‘open-minded’ and that it will be very normal to live in a mixed world.’
