This is how you get the most comfortable hotel beds at home

Often I sleep in hotels much better than at home. I sleep much deeper, longer, and generally just better. Very nice for someone like me who struggles with quite a few sleep problems. But going to sleep in hotels for a large part seems a bit inconvenient and above all quite expensive.

So my solution: bring the hotel experience home. Making your bed as hotel-proof as possible is of course also an option, and here are 5 steps to do that.

1. Invest in a good mattress
A bit typical that I give this as the first tip since I still have to do this step myself, but it is the most important for the best night's sleep. It's so silly to skimp on a mattress — yes, those things are expensive but you spend a lot of time in them. So don't be stingy.

2. Go for the large sizes
Assuming this fits in your bedroom, of course. But I really sleep the best in hotels that have such an unreasonably large bed. That when you sleep together you don't even have to touch each other. And where you can lie completely diagonally by yourself. DELICIOUS. That people are surprised at how gigantic your bed is when they see it. Let them be jealous.

3. More, more, more
A good pillow is essential for a good night's sleep. But people who have ever slept in a hotel (almost everyone, I think), know that the best beds always have an abundance of pillows. DO IT.

4. Go for white
Yes, I always associate that with hotels: heavenly white. Both for the fitted sheet and for the duvet cover. Does it really affect your sleep, what color you lie under? I haven't seen it scientifically proven, but mark my words: white is the way to go.

5. Go for the right sheets
Those white ones then, right. Washing everything every day probably gives the best effect, but that's not entirely feasible. Solution: buy sheets made of 100% woven percale cotton. Trust me. You'll never want anything else.
