This is how you make the ultimate toast

toastie

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the foodies of online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat and what to cook. This time our chefs serve you: the ultimate toastie according to Gordon Ramsay.

What a dream job that man has. Now we come across another video in which Gordon Ramsay visits Tasmania, visits a local cheesemaker, and creates the ultimate grilled cheese. With cheese that you can only find there, but that doesn't matter, because this can also be done with a Dutch cheese.

First, the great chef cuts two thick slices of cheese. One is a cheese with pink pepper – divine, but good luck finding that if you don't want to fly halfway around the world. Doesn't matter, just choose tasty melting cheese for your toastie and if you can find something with nice little peppers in it, even better. It's also about the thickness of the slices and they are, as already mentioned, not small. Think: as thick as your mobile phone.

No thin slices
Then the knife goes into a loaf of bread. No thin slices of bread, he advises. Capiche? He saws thick slices from a nice rustic floor bread. A thick layer of butter goes on the outside of the slices, just like a plasterer treats a bumpy wall: not too stingy. Mr. sprinkles salt and pepper over it. The cheese is placed on the slices, with a spoonful of kimchi.

Press it in
Of course, Ramsay fries his grilled cheese sandwich in the pan, because grilled cheese sandwiches are the best toasties. But he puts that pan... over an open fire. Olive oil in the frying pan, thick slices of bread in. His secret move: press the toastie down in the pan, then it gets nice and crispy and the cheese melts well. Flip it over and again: push as if your life depends on it. When he bites into his own creation, he has only one word for it: wow.
