This is how you pick the tastiest watermelon from the shelf

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the foodies of online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our chefs serve you: the tastiest watermelon from the shelf.

At the editorial office of FavorFlav, we don't always agree, but there is no argument that nothing is better than a sweet piece of watermelon in the summer. Finding one that is actually sweet, on the other hand, can be quite tricky. With these tips, you'll easily pick the perfect watermelon.

Picked
Watermelons grow on plants and are picked when they are ripe. Unfortunately, it often happens that the harvest takes place too early. But good news: you can tell by the watermelon. Look for the yellow spot on the outside of the watermelon. The yellower the spot, the riper it is. In any case, don't take home a watermelon that has a white or pale spot. A waste of your energy, because this means it was picked too early and is less sweet.

Appearance is important
Go for a smooth and firm watermelon without spots or damaged pieces.

Lifting
The weight of a watermelon says a lot. A heavy watermelon means it is full of water (deliciously juicy) and full of flavor. When you are in the supermarket or at the market, it's best to lift a few watermelons (of the same size) and compare them. Choose the heaviest one.

Knock, knock, who’s there?
This is the avocado technique among watermelons. Instead of squeezing, you tap on the watermelon. If you hear a flat sound, you better keep searching, because it’s not quite ripe yet. Do you hear a hollow sound? Bingo!

Cutting like a pro
Aside from carrying such a huge melon, cutting it into pieces is also quite a task. Fortunately, we have a solution for everything: with this hack, you can easily cut a watermelon.

Fail
Was your search for the perfect watermelon not successful? Don't eat it with (any) reluctance, but make something creative out of it. How about a watermelon mojito poptail or champagne watermelon mimosas?
