TIP TIP TIP: My Octopus Teacher on Netflix

I didn't necessarily expect to ever recommend a documentary like this. I am absolutely terrified of everything that lives in the water, and octopuses are definitely included in that. But I also find an octopus so fascinating, so I eventually gave in to the documentary My Octopus Teacher, and before I knew it, I was crying in front of the TV. About a documentary on an octopus. Yes, I have outdone myself again.

The documentary follows Craig Foster, who over the years builds a special bond with, you guessed it: an octopus. He is a free diver, so there is no aquarium or tank involved, and this octopus lives in the wild (thankfully). I did some research before and during watching and am now even more fascinated by octopuses. Those creatures are bizarrely smart.

And you should know (small spoiler) that an octopus does not live very long at all. Especially the males. That automatically means that Craig Foster knows this octopus for pretty much its entire life. The bond they build is so special. I can't believe I'm really writing this about a man and an octopus, but it's really true.

You really have to see it to understand. This animal becomes very important to Craig Foster, and when you watch it, you really understand that completely. It is incredibly interesting to see how such an octopus lives, how intelligent they are, and how they survive in water. And, make sure to grab those tissues, because you are guaranteed to cry. Yep, over an octopus.
