Tips from Amanda Rijff for dark skin

It is truly unimaginable that until a few years ago, there were many shades of foundation that were nowhere to be found. A number of brands like M.A.C, Estée Lauder, and Maybelline did their best, but still, not everyone could find what they needed. Fortunately, there was Rihanna in 2017. She launched, probably the most inclusive makeup line, ‘Fenty Beauty’, with forty shades of foundation. Missing out was almost impossible. And thankfully, this was the eye-opener for the beauty industry. Finally. These are steps in the right direction towards a permanent change.

Last year, I got to know Amanda Rijff, a woman with a beauty CV that is impressive. She shares international beauty trends daily on her site Fabelish, makes the most beautiful videos with great tips and is the queen of the ‘flawless’ face. It’s no wonder she wrote a book about it – you can find it here. Now I tapped Amanda on her digital shoulder because I was curious about her beauty tips for dark skin, and she shared them with me.

Amanda: ‘Dark skin benefits most from a not too oily substance like a serum and a moisturizing emulsion. Dark skin is already oilier by nature. Personally, I like to use the serum from QMS because of its collagen-stimulating ingredients. In terms of makeup, I swear by a water-based primer with hyaluronic acid. The primers from Laura Mercier work well on dark skin because they are not too oily, hydrate well, absorb quickly, and work with every foundation. For foundation, BB or CC creams are great to use, allowing the oilier T-zone to stay clear. Lastly, dark skin is also very happy with a sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white cast. Pure Light SPF50 from Dermalogica is one of my favorites in this category.’
