Why I don't participate in dry January

So I land on December 31 at 9:00 PM at Schiphol. We plow our way through the thick fog towards home, fireplace, and J. Lohr. I usually have a few bottles of cold ones lying around. That's what I thought. I put the suitcases in the hallway, sprint towards the fridge to kick off the New Year's celebration, and what surprises me? No wine. I repeat: no wine. NO WINE.
Thank goodness there was a bottle of Moët that brought hope in the fearful winter night, but I can tell you that I have never started January 1 so fresh as this time in years. The wine need remained (it was not satisfied, after all), so January 1 seemed like a great moment to settle by the fireplace with a glass of this or that. Luckily, I take care of a friend's plants who is on vacation, so a quick message and it was arranged: I could raid her climate cabinet. Anyway. Long intro for a short message. I am not doing dry January. And for these reasons.
1. I took it easy with New Year's
Rarely have I gone to bed fresher than last Tuesday. That aversion to alcohol that you normally have on January 1, which makes you look forward to a month of zero, I did not have this time.
2. January is the dullest month of all
If my little glass of coziness is also taken away from me, you might as well store me away for the whole month. If you're going dry, do it in February. That saves you three more days of suffering.
3. I have done three times nine months dry
That equals 18 dry January months. Now it's your turn.
4. I can't do that to Maarten and Adri, my favorite wine merchants
Those people also have to pay their mortgage at the end of the month, right?
5. Did I already mention that I find January a boring month?
Anyway, I'm skipping this one. But you know what I will do? A week without Netflix. And if I get into it a bit, I'll continue with a week where I will only use my phone to make calls. Let's see how that goes. So I will definitely go dry, but not with alcohol.
Cheers and I wish you a fantastic, healthy, love-filled 2020.
