14 grappige feiten over Barcelona

photos of Barcelona

Next week I'm going. With my girl. She has finished group 8 and that needs to be celebrated. And because my layout maker's blood likes to be in motion, a little booklet had to be made. And since all the research for two little readers is also such a waste and you undoubtedly also find it quite nice to read, I present it to you as well: the Barcelona facts you didn't know but want to know.

  • Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain, the largest is the capital Madrid.
  • There are 1.6 million people living in Barcelona. In Amsterdam, there are about 800,000. So there are twice as many people in Barcelona as in Amsterdam.
  • Barcelona has two universities that are considered among the most important in Spain and Europe.
  • In 1992, Barcelona hosted the Olympic Games and the Olympic village is still a tourist attraction.
  • Barcelona is famous for its football club: FC Barcelona and its stadium Camp Nou.
  • Every 19 seconds, an accident happens in Barcelona. Therefore, drivers in Barcelona are seen as the worst in the world.
  • A lot of people prefer to walk in Barcelona rather than go by car. That's why there are many sidewalks. If you were to lay them all side by side, you could fill 260 football fields with the number of pedestrian paths.
  • One of the most important figures in Barcelona is the architect Antoni Gaudí, who designed the famous church Sagrada Familia and Parc Güell. Gaudí himself is buried in the Sagrada Familia.
  • Until 1992, there were no beaches in Barcelona, but the coastline was completely used by factories. When they were allowed to host the Olympic Games, they thought it wasn't a nice business card and moved the factories and created all new beaches.
  • The most famous street in Barcelona is La Rambla (we say Ramblas), which is about two kilometers long and filled with stalls and street artists.
  • The Barri Gòtic is the old Barcelona and attracts a million tourists every week. That's 52 million tourists a year!
  • If you walk through the Portal d’Àngel, you are walking over the busiest street in Spain. About 3,500 people walk here every hour.
  • There are twelve abandoned metro stations in Barcelona. The city was reorganized and as a result, they were not used. The story goes that witches live there.
  • The football stadium Camp Nou is one of the largest stadiums in the world. It can hold almost 100,000 people.
