Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: the recipe for oliebollen and boozy apple fritters from the Airfryer.
Why sit in frying oil smell for days when it can be done differently? Get your Philips Airfryer ready, because we have the best recipes for classic oliebollen, boozy apple fritters, and trendy churros. Each one is less greasy and free of frying smell. Can we get an AMEN?!
As soon as the first oliebollen stall is spotted, I can't stay away from the display cases full of balls and fritters. But you know: eat one, and you want more. And if you eat more, you quickly feel like a fat ball in a heavy food coma. At least, I do. And I can tell you from experience: that’s not nice.
Making them yourself is a solution because: more control over what you put in them. But let's be honest: waking up on January 1st with that musty frying smell is certainly no party. Luckily, there’s our savior in frying need: the Philips Airfryer!
Oliebollen from the Airfryer
With the Airfryer XXL, you can indeed make those classic oliebollen, without those greasy lips, fingers, and frying smell afterwards. They will never really be slim, of course, they remain oliebollen, so you can add some sunflower oil, but it’s by no means necessary for them to float in it. Make this recipe for the one and only Philips ‘airbollen’ and add raisins, pieces of pineapple, walnuts, or whatever you like, such as in this recipe with apple and cranberry. You bake the balls at 200 degrees, flip them halfway through, and they are ready in 10 minutes.
Do you still have a big pile of oliebollen left on January 1st? Then make this delicious oliebollen bread pudding (if your hangover allows it) and enjoy further. Set the temperature 15 degrees lower than in the original recipe and keep a close eye on the baking process. Due to the hot air that continuously circulates through the Airfryer, it can go quickly.

Apple fritters from the Airfryer
Where there are oliebollen, there are apple fritters. In the Airfryer, they get a fantastic crunchy layer from the caramelized sugar. In this recipe you use puff pastry instead of batter, which makes it extra easy to quickly put something delicious on the table. You can also fill the dough with marzipan, something that isn’t so easily done with batter. And in the mood for a next level fritter? Make a boozy version with some rum or cognac; stir a few caps into the apple-marzipan filling.

Variation tips
Rutger, from RutgerBakt, also makes delicious fritter variations with poached pear, apricot, and banana.. Just follow the steps for the filling, because in the Airfryer you don’t use batter. You can let the fruit, apricots, and poached pears soak overnight in almond liqueur. Just make sure to dry them well before use. For the ultimate sweet treat generously pour caramel sauce over it. You make the ultimate caramel sauce according to Bon Appétit with butter and heavy cream. Mmm…
Churros from the Airfryer
Are those balls and fritters too big for you? Churros are the answer. The Spanish snack can be just as easily made in the Airfryer and is perfect for endless variations. Chocolate, cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, glaze, ice cream... and headed to. And how delicious it is! Man man man. Unbelievable. Happy new year!
