Apple pie nachos are our new favorite

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: apple pie nachos are our new favorite.
Do you also dream of nachos with a thick layer of cheese? Or of nachos todos with minced meat, red pepper, and guacamole? Then you are exactly the right type for these apple pie nachos. They are sweet nachos covered with a layer of baked apples, topped with a thick dollop of whipped cream.
Ingredients
- 6 small tortillas
- 100 grams of butter, melted
- 200 grams of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of cinnamon
- 2 apples, peeled, core removed and diced
- 3 tablespoons of lemon juice
- For decoration: chopped nuts, caramel sauce, whipped cream
This apple situation most resembles the apple pockets that McDonald's had on the menu in the nineties. It was a kind of cheese soufflé, filled with chunky applesauce. Terribly hot and terribly delicious.
Pieces of apple or applesauce
For these apple pie nachos, use firm, tart apples like Elstar or Pink Lady. Cooking apples, which you use for apple pie and applesauce, are too soft and then you won't have those nice pieces of apple on your nachos, but more of a kind of sauce. If you don't have other apples, don't worry and just use whatever is on the fruit bowl. Even with applesauce, these apple pie nachos will probably taste amazing.
Here's how to make apple pie nachos
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
- Place a piece of baking paper on a baking tray.
- Cut the tortillas into triangles. Put them in a bowl and add 75 grams of melted butter, the sugar, and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon. Stir until all tortilla triangles are coated with 150 grams of sugar and butter.
- Place the tortilla pieces on the baking tray and bake them in the oven until golden brown and cooked through. This takes about 6 minutes, halfway through you turn the pieces over. If not all pieces fit on the baking tray at once, you will need to bake them in batches.
- Peel the apples, remove the core, and cut them into cubes. Sprinkle lemon juice over them, mix with 50 grams of sugar and a tablespoon of cinnamon.
- Put the rest of the butter in a frying pan. Add the apple pieces and cook them until they become soft.
- Now place a layer of tortillas on a large plate. Distribute the apples over them. Then another layer of tortillas, then more apples, and so on. Decorate the mountain of apple pie nachos with nuts, caramel sauce, and whipped cream.
