Queen Máxima and Maximum beer

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: the beer that Queen Máxima helped brew.

Want to toast royally these days? That is possible with a new beer from Limburg's Gulpener. Queen Máxima actually helped brew a special IPA, and the proceeds from the sale go to a good cause.

The queen was in Limburg last summer because last year the biennial King Willem I Prize for Sustainable Entrepreneurship was awarded to Gulpener. The beer brand, which has been around for almost two centuries (!), built an incredibly ‘green’ Gulpener Brewery with efficient innovations and runs on renewable energy and local raw materials. Máxima contributed when she was on a working visit to the farmers, growers, and the brewery in honor of the award.

Hopperdepop
The full pouch of hop cones she picked from the growers was added to the kettle together with brewmaster Bas Jacobs, after which Jacobs oversaw the rest of the process for this royal beer. He wanted to give that hop a leading role and chose to brew a hazy IPA: an unfiltered cloudy beer in which you can still see the hop swirling around a bit.

Large bottle
To further enhance the orange feeling (and for the citrus complexity), he added mandarin: the little oranges also fit well with the season. Lemon also brings some freshness to this robust beer, and it is bottled in a beautiful large 75 cl bottle.

Robust, spicy, and yet fresh!

Good local

Because Máxima is honorary chair of the foundation More Music in the Classroom, Gulpener has chosen to donate the proceeds from this beer, which is a one-time and thus a limited edition to the youth training of the local harmony and
fanfare. Because these associations create great connections in the local community and also make all parties even more cheerful, Gulpener found this a perfect good cause to support.

Cheers
The Gulpener Hazy IPA with Maximum Hop can be ordered from Gulpener's webshop (or ask your local beer store about it); the 75 cl bottle costs €18.25. Only 500 bottles have been made, and the advice is, as with all hazy IPAs: the fresher you drink it, the better.
