From minus 10 to plus 17 degrees. Oh, everything literally looks rosier with a little sunshine and these spring temperatures. Especially on the construction site, everything is fortunately moving a bit faster again, and that is also needed because in just over a month the moving truck will be on the curb. Just a little more energy from ourselves and then we will spend a month with our feet up. Well, the house is still far from finished when we move, but at least it’s finished enough to occasionally hang out on the couch for an afternoon.

Another milestone reached: Elias is coming home from daycare on Wednesday, standing freely in the living room (which he has been doing for a few weeks) and suddenly takes five steps towards Jon. FIVE STEPS! I start screaming and clapping with pride so loudly that Elias gets a little startled. Because 2020 has been such a crazy year and this year unfortunately hasn’t started much better, the past time feels a bit ‘lost’ and ‘gone too quickly’. And now that our baby is really starting to lose his baby-ness, I sometimes fear that we haven’t enjoyed his first year enough. But then I look back at the photos and videos and fortunately see so many beautiful moments with the family and fun trips in our own country that I had completely forgotten about. Time with the kids never feels lost, but – with or without a pandemic – it does feel like something that goes by way too quickly...

‘And have you already thought about your dream kitchen?’ We have an online meeting with ‘The online kitchen advisor’ (really a golden tip now that we can’t go anywhere: you have so many options and you receive a virtual reality tour of your future kitchen based on your wishes within a day) and I truly have no idea what my dream kitchen looks like. The only thing I knew right away was that there definitely needs to be a Quooker again. My parents had one of the first Quooker taps in their home and I already found it such a solution back then. And especially now with two kids, I don’t just use it for tea and every cooking session, but also to quickly sterilize pacifiers and bottles and to warm up milk and food (au bain-marie). They now have a brass patina variant and I have literally taken this tap as a starting point for our kitchen and adjusted the rest accordingly.

Also something I hadn’t thought about at all until six years ago: switch material. But in our previous home, we came across GIRA and believe me, that is next level. Your sockets and light switches suddenly become things that should stand out, because they make them in all sorts of cool colors and materials. For example, we had white, taupe, and black glass plates in our previous house and now we are going for bronze! In addition, they have a home automation system, which allows you to make everything in your entire house communicate with each other and control your lights, appliances, and sound system remotely. Jon is especially looking forward to the ‘scenes’ that you can pre-program, so that with the push of a button you can create the perfect evening setting with all your lamps. If filming gets postponed even longer, at least we can play some scenes at home.
