We can no longer ignore that 2021 was not exactly a stellar year. It mainly felt like a sort of repetition of 2020, with a lot of corona and rules. Many relationships have been put to the test by all these measures and unfortunately also failed. According to famous psychotherapist Esther Perel, this is because a relationship during the corona crisis can actually go in only two directions: ‘Life is short, let’s get married’ or: ‘life is short, I’m out of here’. For example, you can find out much faster that the partner you are with actually doesn’t suit you at all. I don’t see this as a disaster: the sooner you find out, the better, right? Well, corona has apparently accelerated this process for many people, given the large number of break-ups. Hopefully, 2022 will be a better year in every respect, but especially in love. Here’s a list of couples who unfortunately didn’t make it this year.

Kaia Gerber and Jacob Elordi
I was bummed about this because I thought these two were so sweet and way too good-looking together. But luckily, after a little over a year of dating, they amicably parted ways. Apparently, their schedules were too conflicting and they didn’t spend much time together. According to a source, it seemed like they were going backwards instead of forwards, and that doesn’t work, of course. They certainly won’t lack new suitors. I hereby offer myself.

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello
I absolutely did not see this coming; I was convinced they would end up together. But unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. After two years, they decided to move on as friends. They shared this news via social media with the cute text: ‘Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends.’ Well, I’ve never experienced such a break-up myself, but it is possible.

This dramatic break-up probably didn’t escape anyone’s notice. I’m still a bit in shock about how this relationship came to an end. Yolanda (Gigi’s mother) still claims to have been hit by her ex-son-in-law, while Zayn himself says it was an innocent encounter. Well, we’ll never know. I especially feel sorry for the one-year-old baby Khai who is growing up with parents who broke up in such an unpleasant way.

Scott Disick and Amelia Hamlin
After eleven months, actress Amelia Hamlin and Scott Disick have ended their relationship. The break-up was the result of a leaked Instagram message in which Scott mocked his ex Kourtney Kardashian, with an attached photo of her and new lover Travis Barker. Not very smart that he directed this message to another ex of Kourtney, Younes Bendjima, who then shared a screenshot with the world. By the way, Younes responded very nicely to the message with: ‘Doesn’t matter to me as long as she’s happy.’ Now, that’s what I call class. Quite understandable that Amelia found this a turn-off.

I guess very few women are sad about this. For two years, Ed was in a relationship with this influencer, but unfortunately, they were just not meant for each other. Maybe that’s for the best, because Tamara admitted in a podcast that she was actually a huge fan: ‘I watched Gossip Girl twice a year. I swear to god I actually manifested him in my life.’ Quite a bit creepy, right? On the other hand, it’s hard evidence that manifesting really works.
