THE NEW CHEESE FONDUE POP-UP SMELT OPENS SOON AND YOU CAN NOW RESERVE

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: the new cheese fondue pop-up Smelt opens soon and you can now reserve.
Cheese lovers pay attention: the popular cheese fondue restaurant Fondue is back. Different name (Smelt) and different location, but still with top quality cheeses. Reserve your spot quickly and fight for the non.
A bit of a cheese lover knows it: the divine cheese shop De Kaaskamer van Amsterdam. This cheese heaven has been located in the Runstraat for ages. And besides selling cheeses, there was a cheese fondue pop-up at the end of 2019. Fondue with high-quality cheeses was the mission of De Kaaskamer van Amsterdam when they opened the pop-up restaurant ‘Fondue van de Kaaskamer‘.
Top quality cheese fondue
Too often, cheese fondue is made from less common cheeses, noted co-owner Joost Hammann. For over four months, Fondue served the best cheese fondues in various forms at the Westergasterrein. The location and name have changed, even improved they say themselves, but the mission has remained the same: top quality cheese fondue.

Steaming pot
The new location is Café de Doffer, just like De Kaaskamer van Amsterdam a household name in Amsterdam. Both establishments have been neighbors for over a quarter of a century and this winter both businesses are merging. Across from the shop, next to the café in an authentic yet brand new restaurant, you can join from December 8th over a steaming pot.

Mont d’Or Monday
During the first pop-up, Mondays were a great success with Mont d’Or Monday, where the entire Monday evening was dedicated to the French mountain cheese Mont d’Or. Starting in January, this Monday will return.

That last divine bite
Fighting for the non? The true lover knows exactly what we are talking about; that last crispy leftover cheese fondue that sticks to the warm caquelon (fondue pot). In Switzerland, they call this ‘la religieuse’ or ‘the nun’. Traditionally, they crack an egg in the pot to get the cheese off the pot better. This cheesy scrambled egg is the ‘grande finale’ of the evening.

Five days a week
Fighting for that last divine bite? At Smelt, you can initially visit five days a week (Wednesday to Sunday) to satisfy your cheese cravings . The pop-up has an open end, but will definitely remain until March 1, 2022.
Reservations can be made from today via restaurant Smelt.
