Colton Underwood says on Good Morning America: “I am gay”

In the Netherlands, The Bachelor/The Bachelorette is already quite big, just imagine how gigantic it is in America. And of course, they have to do everything over the top there, so they also have a kind of spin-off called Bachelor in Paradise where former participants from one show join the other. They then naturally gain thousands (or millions) of followers on Insta, and by now everyone is a bit skeptical about whether anyone will ever participate for love again.

One of those participants is Colton Underwood, who first participated in The Bachelorette. It was so well received that he then also participated in The Bachelor and also in Bachelor in Paradise. So after he fought for the love of a woman, the roles were reversed. Sounds pretty good, right? He met Cassie through the show and in real life, they also became a couple.

Until the break-up, which was anything but amicable. Cassie requested a restraining order against Underwood through the court: he was allegedly hanging around outside her apartment complex and had placed a tracker under her car (WHUT?). That restraining order was granted, and six months later she did not want to extend it — they had supposedly worked things out privately.

That in itself is already a juicy story, but the story took a plot twist yesterday morning: Colton Underwood revealed on Good Morning America that he is gay. After years of internal struggle, he claims to be happier and healthier than ever and can finally be 100 percent himself.

Look, that's really nice. I advocate that everyone should be able to be completely themselves. But people have — not unexpectedly — questions. If this has been going on for years, why seek out the media in a heterosexual dating show? Why make a woman's life miserable by placing a tracker under her car and even ensuring that you get a restraining order served to you?

So America is in an uproar. He has earned quite a bit from his participation, and they now find that a bit unfair of him. Especially since he announced that he has a deal with Netflix, which will make a reality series about Underwood's life after his coming out.

Americans are so disagreeing with this that a petition has now been started to stop the entire deal with Netflix. Ah, this kind of thing can only happen in America, right? Everything bigger, better (well… that’s still up for debate) and absolutely more juicy.
