These are the 6 nominees for Cookbook of the Year 2021

cookbooks

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: Cookbook of the Year 2021.

Autumn has started and so it's time for plenty of cookbook news, with this year the first edition of the Cookbook of the Year election, organized by the colleagues of the culinary platform Food & Friends. On November 16, 2021, the winner will be announced and your vote counts.

A five-member expert jury of the independent Cookbook of the Year election has nominated 6 titles from 61 submissions from 25 publishers. These are the nominees:

Bistro Manon, Manon Proper
This woman with indeed: a twin and a triplet serves them delicious dishes daily. She quickly realized that as a home cook, you shouldn't give in to the children's taste, but adjust your own favorites. (publisher Good Cook)

The Grateful Kitchen, Stephanie Verstift
This is a book with guts, completely of this time and with an eye for sustainability. Nice that there is variation in the ingredients and you can also cook from it if you don't have everything at home. (publisher Brandt)

An Ode to Vegetables, Alice Zaslavsky
Finally, a vegetable book without the hipster-vegan style. This is a book for people who love local food, so you can work with celeriac or sunchoke. Alice Zaslavsky shows how you can get even more out of vegetables by varying cooking techniques. Besides steaming and blanching you can also confit, sear, roast, fry, stew, or caramelize many vegetables. Editorial favorite is her saffron orzo with grilled artichokes. (publisher Good Cook)

Hotpot, Bas Robben
‘Hotpotting’ could become the new gourmetting, as it is the new way to eat together with friends and family. A pot of hot broth in the middle of the table and hotpot away! Although... hotpotting isn't just something you do. Because what you cook in the hotpot is at least as important as the soup itself. Bas Robben explains in his new book Hotpot step by step how to approach it best, what you need for it, and of course the tastiest recipes to get started right away. Sneak peek: we share his recipe for a silky sesame chicken. (publisher Good Cook)

Ottolenghi Test Kitchen – shelf love, Yotam Ottolenghi
Nice to cook from the pantry. Ottolenghi is becoming increasingly accessible and shows that everyone can cook. (publisher Fontaine)

Parwana, Durkhanai Ayubi
Incredible how Durkhanai Ayubi highlights the history of Afghanistan and how she connects those historical stories to her recipes in this cookbook. It is fascinating how she synchronizes her personal family history with the history of the country and connects it to types of dishes. (publisher Becht)

Jury Cookbook of the Year
The jury of the Cookbook of the Year election this year consists of Bart van Berkel, chef and winner of MasterChef, Bibi Loomans, editorial coordinator culinary at Koffietijd, Dana Ploeger, freelance editor of Trouw, Jan-Hein Wierts, product manager of the Dutch book at Audax Group, and Lyan van Furth, food photographer and two-time winner of the Foodelia Awards, the Oscars for the best culinary photographers in the world.

In addition to the expert jury prize, there is also a Public Prize. Voting is possible via www.foodandfriends.nl/cookbookoftheyear. Everyone who votes receives the free Food&Friends Cookbook of the Year E-magazine as a gift with 61 recipes from all participating titles.
