Eating Easter eggs for a good cause

Easter eggs

On Sunday we can, but today I would definitely taste in advance. And stock up for the coming weeks, because there is little more delicious than such a lovely Easter egg. At PLUS (may I make a side note that I really find PLUS's campaigns award-winning?) they consider taste and quality at least as important as other supermarkets, but they add another goal on top of that. Their private label chocolate must be fair trade. This means they pay more than the established minimum price for cocoa (which is really inhumanly low: an average cocoa farmer often earns less than one dollar a day to enable farmers to invest in education, housing, and other basic needs.

Last year, PLUS was able to pay a total of 1.7 million dollars in Fairtrade premiums to farmers and workers in developing countries. They have replaced nearly 300 private label products that contain cocoa (even if it's just a pinch) with Fairtrade cocoa. And because we buy a lot of those products, the premium that benefits the farmers and workers keeps increasing. PLUS even has the highest Fairtrade premium ever among supermarkets.

The motto is: eat plenty of chocolate. Even if it's just for the cocoa farmers.

No worries about whether there are enough eggs, because PLUS has stocked up nicely. PLUS has 658,523 bags ready for you. Just a delightful list because lists are fun.

The Easter egg paradise of PLUS
• 658,523 thousand bags
• More than 240,000 kilos of Easter eggs
• That's heavier than a Boeing
• That's more than 30 million eggs
• That's more than the number of people living in the Benelux
• If you laid them end to end, you would get a ribbon of 750 kilometers

I would say: stock up. The more you eat, the more they give. A better example of win-win-win doesn't exist, right?
