Expedition Robinson: The Aftertalk

Expedition Robinson episode 20

Yes guys, I really need to get something off my chest. This episode... It just wasn't it. It didn't even come close to a fun Expedition episode. We had no JayJay and no Sterrin. No Yuki. No Jan. What did we get? A boring challenge with a boring Island Council and someone who voluntarily goes home. BOO. So yes, I naturally had quite a few opinions about this debacle, but beware: if you thought it was an exciting episode, this might not be the aftertalk for you. Or it is, and then you can tell me what was so fun about it.

1. But seriously, it's episode I've-lost-count and only now do they arrive at the beautiful islands and corresponding beaches. The sun seems to be shining more all of a sudden. Finally a bit of a tropical Robinson.

2. Okay: No Bandana Island turns out to actually be Bandana Island. Are we still following? Creators, you lost me about thirteen episodes ago.

3. ‘Are there even people going home?’ Dyantha wonders out loud — rightly so. We don't know. At this moment, I wouldn't even be surprised if Stefano suddenly comes out from behind a tree.

4. That little laugh from Robert is contagious and gets on my nerves at the same time. I'm not quite sure what to do with it. For now, I'm chuckling along at the same pace from the couch.

5. #durftevragen: does a button course seriously exist? Who on earth would sit through that, besides Expedition participants?

6. Pff, I found the maze in Disneyland already terrifying and you pay a lot of money for that. This would NOT be my challenge.

7. Wow wow wow, what's happening? This challenge went a bit too fast for me. I don't understand anything anymore and Do is really done in ten seconds.

8. Am I missing something or is that ‘puzzle’ just very simple? Easy to say from my comfortable couch, but I think even I would solve that pretty quickly.

9. Persistent rumors are circulating that Rob and Sterrin are still fishing.

10. Yes, I can feel it in everything. This is going to be THE episode where Rob really has to go home. There's no island left for him to go to.

11. Rob and Dyantha... Have a child of the same age? My brain is having a hard time processing this.

12. They might be a bit of an island together, but I like Sandra and Sylvana. And anyway: why would you vote Sandra out? The only one who can cook well. Crazy.

13. Sorry, maybe a bit of an unpopular opinion, but I think you should just finish what you started if you participate. Sure, it's tough, maybe you get really homesick, but... Then you just shouldn't participate?

14. Also just out of pure selfishness, you know: totally annoying if your favorite decides to just quit. No way, that can't just happen.

15. And in Dyantha's case, it would also be a bit ugly, right? I mean: you vote people out in a way that others call you a ‘snake person’, and then you choose to step down yourself? Not classy.

16. As usual, I'm already ten steps ahead, because maybe she'll just stay in and this plea was for nothing.

17. Stop with those twists, come on. Suddenly the winner can't vote anymore: why?! What's the point of that?

18. Dyantha has definitely asked off-camera if they would vote for her. So-who-so. Poor Robert, he will probably be next.

19. Hey, by the way: why did Robert only have one vote? Dyantha wanted to be voted out herself and then votes for her buddy? I can't imagine she's surprised that she was called a Snake Person.

20. AHA. And that's why Do didn't want to vote: she still has all her votes. And the rest just voted for Dyantha because she asked for it and now they have lost a vote. I have some thoughts on this. They should have just let her stay: then she gives up herself AND it doesn't cost you a vote.

21. Just a mid-term observation: I actually find this episode completely rubbish. Boring challenge, boring voting, boring twist, boring ending... Is this season maybe so long that we're currently in a rut? The seven-year itch?

22. Also boring: no Jan and no Yuki. You notice it immediately.

23. For the first time, I stayed for the aftertalk with Luuk Ikink and the most exciting part of the evening was that Dyantha sees herself in the mirror for the first time after the Expedition and calls home. Just do that in the episode itself.

24. Did Twitter think it was an exciting episode? Nah. The tweets are the best part of this entire episode.

PS. Dyantha announced at Island Talk that she would participate again if asked and I think we should clearly agree that leaving voluntarily = never a second chance. And yes, that actually applies to you too, Do.
