EXPEDITION ROBINSON: THE AFTERTALK

Expedition Robinson episode 19 the aftertalk

Do we remember that terrible King's Song from 2013? With the, uh, brilliant lyrics: ‘The day you knew would come is finally here’? Well, dear John Ewbank, I think I completely understood what you meant. More than eight years later, on a dreary Sunday evening, I suddenly felt it. This is what you meant. The day that, after what felt like months, all the camps at Expedition Robinson would meet each other. Hallelujah.

1. That Défano and his insatiable desire to end up in Ibiza. Dear Défano, let that dream go. For now, it's still going to be shivering in Croatia for you.

2. It's so typical that the camera crew sees dozens of crabs, fish, and other animals while the contestants come up empty-handed and half-starved.

3. It's also quite strange that this island is so much more beautiful than the previous islands; why would you do that? That's just intentional torment.

4. Britte: ‘I still can't believe this is the merger.’ Uh, Britte, I don't believe it either. There will definitely be a twist, because three camps with an average of three people each doesn't seem very practical to me.

5. How proud Jan is of Yuki. So sweet. Yuki fangirling makes it even better.

6. How god-awful are those pebble beaches, by the way? Holy shit, you would have to sleep and live there for seventeen days. Once again, a realization that I would spend Expedition Robinson crying.

7. Défano is really learning a lot this season. For example, that scouting really exists and isn't just in cartoons. Mind = blown.

8. HAHA. Jasmine goes in full force with a straight leg. Wow, she doesn't forgive and forget quickly. Britte, brace yourself: Jasmine is on fire and you're in trouble today.

9. It's also pretty dumb to make even more enemies right at your comeback, right? Maybe someone should have explained to Jasmine that Expedition can be quite backstabbing.

10. ‘Darn it, there's just a third island!’ Oh Jan. Dear, clueless Jan. Three islands is still child's play. We viewers at home have lost count by now.

11. Those captains of those speedboats are making a fortune, you know. Island hopping 2.0 is what this is.

12. My goodness, this episode really has a fast pace, I must say. It really goes from hot to cold. Just processed that drama with Jasmine, and right into a challenge between Yuki and Jan. Calm down.

13. And the award for the most athletic participant goes to... Yuki. Losing while laughing with yet another terrible challenge. I almost got sympathetic muscle pain just from watching it.

14. Whuuut. Loiza? Acute medical reasons? What's going on? Oh no. That's such a bummer. She was so dedicated. What a rollercoaster of emotions this episode was. Blink twice and you miss half of it.

15. Tears not even dried yet and straight to the order of the day: whether you want to do a challenge right away.

16. You wait 19 episodes where practically no one went home and then suddenly it's full speed ahead with Mach 3. Well, well, well.

17. Jasmine might have been better off waiting until she had immunity before stirring up trouble.

18. No idea if you all do this too, but I make mental notes every episode for when I might become a Robinson contestant. Like: learn to make fire. And also: learn that freaking Robinson knot.

19. The chance that I become a celebrity and also participate in this program is negligible, but still. Always be prepared.

20. See. This. ROLLERCOASTER. Within ten seconds (we can also call it Sterrin-speed) she has tied that knot.

21. #durftevragen: can Yuki do anything other than laugh this episode? Two hellish challenges and just bouncing around like a happy egg.

22. Noooo. Haha. I completely forgot that Défano was still participating. He just hung around there for half an hour.

23. Tonight again reason number so many that Jan is the absolute best: Briiiiiiit. POWERGIRL. I. Melt.

24. Prediction: they will vote, but none of those votes will count because Loiza is going home. Jasmine will get angry, no matter why. Probably because everyone will vote for her and she won't see it coming again.

25. I found this episode quite clear like this. And then you see the preview for next week and think: whut? Who are these people again? Oh right, we just missed a whole group today.

26. Long story short: those two episodes per week are still a mindfuck for me.

27. And Twitter just can't get used to it either.
