Wiekes weetjes: 10 facts that are guaranteed to ruin your day

Well, sorry, I don't know what it is, but I always find the grim facts the most fun. Not-so-fun facts, I love them. So yes, again today facts that will absolutely ruin your day, I can't make it much prettier. But despite that, they are of course things you want to know, because that's how our complex brain works. The grimmer, the better, right? Then today is your lucky day.
1. The night is the natural state of the universe
The day only exists because there happens to be a gigantic ball of fire relatively close to our planet. But how it is at night, that's how the whole universe really is. I find that quite a mindfuck. And incredibly dark.
2. Brains fall apart when you pick them up
This made me feel a little queasy. Because imagine, you get the chance to pick up a portion of brains, just be careful: it falls apart in your hand. So if you see that in a movie or documentary, those brains have been hardened with chemicals. It's just a weird kind of mush.
3. All cruise ships are required to have a morgue
People die on cruise ships, that's just how it is. Especially on those cruise trips that are quite popular among the elderly. So yes, where do you put those bodies? Exactly, in a morgue. Funny: sometimes that morgue is also used as a prison, in case you misbehave intensely on a cruise.
4. The TSA in America (customs at the airport) only caught 5 percent of all guns smuggled in during an experiment
That indeed means that 95 percent got through unseen. Safe feeling, huh?
5. Kids have adult teeth under their eyes
As in: right under their eyes. That looks so weird. Check for yourself but just here. I don't know why, but I really feel incredibly uncomfortable with this photo.
6. You can bite off your own finger in terms of strength
The only thing that stops you is your own pain threshold and the fact that it doesn't feel quite right in your brain to bite off your own finger. In terms of biting strength, it could totally be done.
7. Terror: there used to be scorpions as big as white sharks
Evolution is a beautiful thing. It would really be terrible if this were still the case.
8. Thanks to pregnant women, the average number of skeletons in a human body is more than one
This is just a fact, but one you don't think about quickly, even though it really sounds logical. But also so weird at the same time. Just like your arms and legs, by the way: the average of those is less than one per person, because there are many people who are missing one or two.
9. If you don't die prematurely but reach your expected age, you have lost over 43 kilos of skin
Yuck. When you shed skin, it really weighs nothing? Just imagine how much skin that is, if you want to hit that 40 kilos. Meine gute.
10. In general, people are happiest at the age of 21, and they only reach that level again when they retire
I am 32 and can confirm this. Well, that about your 21st then.
