Five questions about The Traitors

After a long tease, tonight is the night: The Traitors. What do you get when you lock up eighteen Dutch celebrities in a castle in South Limburg who can ‘murder’ someone every night in consultation? What can we expect? Time to pull candidate Loiza Lamers by the sleeve…
Loiza, The Traitors, I see all sorts of things about it. I don't think a person needs to think long when asked to participate in such a game.
‘Well, to be completely honest: at first I did think about it for a moment. The idea appealed to me right away, but it is of course a new program, so you can't just look back at a season and see if it's cool. But I was very curious.’
So far, the format seems similar to the game Werewolves. Often played with friends, by the way. Is there a difference?
‘I notice that many people want to compare it to things they recognize or know, but this program is something completely new. It may contain elements from other games or programs, but ultimately it is something totally surprising and unexpected.’
Eighteen well-known Dutch people together in a castle. Three in the middle who are snitching. Does the game get into your head when you sleep there?
‘Quite a bit. In fact: it gets into your head, your bones, your fibers, and under your skin. It feels like it goes on 24/7. Even when you sleep, you dream about it.’
Opera singer Francis van Broekhuizen said at Humberto's table that she found her participation ‘horrible’ and that paranoia almost took over her. How did you experience that?
‘Paranoia is the right word. You get so sucked in and it completely takes over you. I tried to put it into perspective sometimes with: ‘it's a game, not real life’, but then another candidate would come to you with theories and a plan of action, and then you were just in it up to your neck again, hahahaha.’
Can you finally lift a corner of the veil: what can we expect in the first episode tonight?
‘The only thing I can say is that tonight it will be revealed to the viewers at home who The Traitors will be. And for the rest, you just have to watch for yourself.’
You understand: I'm ready for tonight, you don't want to know. 21:30, RTL4, bye bye.
