When your girlfriend is sad

may writing

I received a message, and another one, and then one asking if I was home. She was on her way now. I opened the door and walked up the sidewalk to wait for her whole caravan (two girls and a dog). Tears on her cheeks and on those of her girls. My friends are sad, and what do you do then?

1. Fill the glasses
Tea for the little ones, wine for her. It doesn't matter what time it is (by the way, it was half past three so it was fine).

2. Just sigh together
And say that it sucks. And it's unfair. And stupid. Extremely stupid.

3. Walk and puff it away
Do a Guinness Book of Records attempt and stuff all your belongings into your car. Two dogs, five daughters, it doesn't matter. Nothing keeps you and the comforting dunes apart.

4. An ice cream for dessert
Italian scoop ice cream, to be clear.

5. A goodnight and how-are-you-now message

6. A good morning and how-is-it-now message

7. Use your talent
Are you a top chef? Bring a dish. Are you an organizational talent? Go to your friend and bring order to the chaos. Replace flowers, refresh water, empty a trash bag, change a bed. Everything she needs. Are you legally knowledgeable? Maybe you can help her draft an email. Walk her dog, bring something from that amazing bakery.

8. Do unsolicited things
When asked ‘Can I do something for you?’ everyone will probably say ‘no’. So do something you think will make the other person happy. Bake a cake (this frozen margarita cake with tequila for example), tie a ribbon around two nice candles, hang a bag of fresh rolls on the door. Everything is good.

9. Be yourself
That's probably what will make her the happiest.
