Mays mini vakantie

I needed a getaway. Anticipation, packing my little suitcase, that sort of thing. The May holiday to Italy was canceled, sleeping in our beach house was still a bit too cold, so what would it be? Or perhaps my call was heard, I received an email. Would I still like to spend a weekend at Oasis Punt-West in Ouddorp? My heart did a triple backflip because a. I cherish wonderful memories of Ouddorp (I used to go there on vacation with my childhood friend) and b. I had seen envious photos from all my colleagues of this eco-resort. So I quickly replied yes, yes, yes, and before I knew it, we were in the car heading south.
By the way, I had already received a corrective nudge from Adeline because I had mentioned Ouddorp as being in Zeeland while it is actually in Goeree-Overflakkee, so South Holland. I was fine with it as long as I could be there.
Ouddorp turned out to be an incredibly manageable hour and twenty minutes drive from Haarlem. The songs from the group 8 musical playing on the speaker, a glass of wine in hand (a habit when we drive to something festive around snack time, my love pours me a plastic glass of cheer), a blanket over the girls' legs, and off we went.

I had really imagined a lot from the little house; after all, I had meticulously examined the photos of the Villa for six people, but I didn't expect it to be this big. I thought the spacious loft or the cabin-like corner in the living room would count as one of the three bedrooms, but no. This was an and-and-and situation. So three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and toilet, and that spacious living room (really spacious and high) and that loft and that cozy cabin-crawl-away spot. Then three terraces and a view of the Grevelingenmeer. I was satisfied.

The same and-and-and applied to the breakfast that was delivered the next morning. And for everyone a roll (brown and white) and for everyone croissants and pains aux chocolats, yogurt, fruit, granola, orange juice, milk, and for us two lovely bottles of cava to start the day. I saved those for the snack time because I had rented bikes and of course, I had to see if Ouddorp and Middelharnis were just as cozy as thirty (ouch) years ago.

We cycled, walked, toured, cuddled, read, and took naps in the sun. In the category of laziness and supporting the locals, we ordered the most delicious things from the resort's brasserie. Delicious fries, bread with oil and sea salt, just how I like it... But the sushi... I think the best I've ever tasted. And believe me: I've gone the extra mile for a good sushi roll.

When we were happily enjoying the day, a huge platter came around the corner. A gift from Oasis. I made quite an impression with it when I got home to my daughters' friends. That sushi is the perfect lure for anyone who doesn't quite know where to go and needs a stylish, comfortable, and yet so close place to stay.
I give it a solid nine.
