10 x the most expensive hotel rooms in the world

For now, we are still in a lockdown here in the Netherlands: time to pack our bags. Want to go all the way for a bit? Then I have a list for you with the ten most expensive hotel rooms in the world. Of course, you can also choose to save up a bit longer. Or to dream about it.

10. The Plaza Hotel in New York
The Royal Plaza Suite can be rented for just $40,000 per night, but you do get something for that. This suite (1371 square meters, three bedrooms) has a view of Fifth Avenue and Grand Army Plaza. The beautiful room, entirely decorated in the style of the French eighteenth century, features a kitchen and an extensive library. And there is also a butler service 24/7. I don't quite understand why the kitchen is included, maybe just for the overall picture?

9. The Hilltop Villa in Fiji
For $45,000 you can enjoy a stay in the Hilltop Villa in Fiji. This little retreat is located high in the green hills of the island. The suite has three bedrooms and a library. What is it with those expensive suites and libraries? Do you really pay such a fortune for that? An OBA card seems like a cheaper option to me. But of course, there is also a large private pool with a waterfall and hot tub, so that makes it a whole different story.

8. The Muraka Suite in the Maldives
Always wanted to sleep underwater? You can do that at this place for just $50,000. The Conrad Maldives has opened the very first underwater hotel where this suite can be found. The Muraka Suite is located about 16 meters deep in the Indian Ocean. The most special part: the underwater bedroom with a view of the sea from your bed because everything is made of glass. This seems really scary to me; I wouldn't be able to close my eyes here.

7. Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez in Cannes
The Penthouse suite of the luxury five-star hotel Martinez Cannes by Hyatt can be rented for $53,000 per night. What do you get for that? A suite of nearly 1000 square meters on the top floor of the hotel with a panoramic terrace of 500 square meters. Of course, there are marble bathrooms for the four bedrooms, a Turkish bath, a private jacuzzi on the terrace, and artworks by Picasso and Matisse adorning the walls. I'm totally sold, you know.

6. Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas
The Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas is connected to the casino and charges $60,000 per night. I especially laughed at the description they give about the stay: the hotel offers free wifi (yes, finally), marble bathrooms, minibars, coffee makers, and flat-screen TVs. There is also a choice of an Italian restaurant/bar, a luxury steakhouse, and a cocktail bar. Sorry, but this really sounds like a kind of Holiday Inn? But then for $60,000. It must be the place that drives people crazy enough to pay this amount for a room.

5. Laucala Island Resort Hilltop Estate in Fiji
For a little $61,142.00 you can sleep in one of the twelve villas of the Laucala Island Resort. Here you naturally get a gigantic villa in return with a pool, a private driver, a private chef, and even a nanny for your children. Well, that sounds really super, you know.

4. The Mark Penthouse in New York
In the Mark Hotel in Manhattan, you will find the largest suite in the United States, which measures no less than 10,000 square meters. For $75,000 you can stay there for a night. What does the penthouse offer? At least six bathrooms, a stately dining room with space for 24 diners, and a spacious living room with a grand piano. Well, I would throw a gigantic house party here. The suite is designed by French interior designer Jacques Grange, who worked on it for no less than a decade. He describes the penthouse as a castle in the air. Another fun fact: Meghan Markle celebrated her baby shower here.

3. Hotel President Wilson Royal Penthouse Suite in Geneva
In Geneva (Switzerland), you can spend the night in this royal penthouse suite overlooking Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc for about $80,000. The suite is located on the eighth floor of Hotel President Wilson and is part of the Marriott hotel chain. There are twelve bedrooms and twelve marble bathrooms in the suite, so let's say you come with twelve people, you only pay $6666.66 per person. Quite doable, right?

2. Palms Casino Resort Empathy Suite in Las Vegas
Of course, Las Vegas is number two on the list. This time with the amount of a hundred thousand per night for the newest hotel room in the Palm Casino Resort. Yes, you pay $100,000 for The Empathy Suite, designed by British artist Damien Hirst. A downside: the minimum stay is two nights. So expect to spend $200,000. But hey, you do get a gray marble suite in return, including a bar with thirteen seats. And who wouldn't want that?

1. Lover’s Deep Luxury Submarine in St. Lucia
Last but not least: the five-star submarine in St. Lucia where you can stay for $175,000 per night. I understand why this is at the top of the list; this is a completely different experience than any other hotel. The submarine is super deluxe equipped and has a captain (I hope so, yes), a chef, and a butler. And of course, lots of windows. There is also a speedboat transfer service so you can go to land at any moment. A romantic place for a date, but given the price tag, maybe better for a honeymoon of just one night. This seems like a truly bizarre experience, but what a lot of money.
