On retreat in the Netherlands; these 5 retreats are just around the corner

meditation

I would prefer to go on a retreat somewhere in the mountains, where I can meditate among quiet and content monks who understand life a lot better than I do. That is definitely on my bucket list, but I had to start somewhere, right? That's why I looked for retreats nearby, for which you don't have to cross the border. An additional advantage is that traveling in the Netherlands is a lot easier, because you just hop on the train with your beautiful lightweight suitcase. Hoppa.

First things first: what exactly is a retreat? Many people think that there is always yoga involved, which can certainly be the case, but a retreat is mainly about reflection and self-development. It is literally withdrawing yourself from the daily situation for some self-exploration. I'm already looking forward to it, but that's beside the point. A retreat lasts as long as you want; there are one-day variants but you can also go away for a week. And then there is something for every taste, from a silent retreat to one with a lot of yoga or even a combination.

Tip from the editorial team: pack enough stuff if you're going for several days or a week. Nothing is as stressful as forgetting things, or having little space in your suitcase. That's why I looked for a hard suitcase deal, because they can take a beating and are handy to roll along.

1. Being mindful in the Veluwe
Seems like the place to retreat from the daily hustle and bustle. Lighthouse Works organizes retreats within the Netherlands, but soon you can also do a week of yoga in Spain or Greece. Doesn't sound too bad, to be honest. But for now, we keep it within the borders. Whether it's a yoga week, mindful weekend, or detoxing; they offer what you like.

2. Yoga weekend in Zandvoort aan Zee
Scientists have been researching the healing effects of beach and sea for centuries, so Zandvoort seems like a logical place for a retreat. Zenzo Yoga organizes many detox weekends filled with meditation, yoga, and Ayurveda. There is surely one that fits in your agenda after January 19.

3. Happy on retreat
On the site of Happy Soul Travel I keep scrolling and think: yes! A yoga weekend in Zeeland? Yes. Breathing on the tropical island of Lamu? Oh yes. Wellness in Thailand? Book it. Life coaching in a luxury farmhouse? Sounds good to me too. It's very handy to navigate by date and location, so you will definitely find a retreat that suits you.

4. Especially for the 20-something and 30-something
Actually, this is loosely translated as a millennial retreat and I want it now. It's in Zoutelande, which is about the most beautiful place in our country, and I want to go even faster for the mentioned point. A 60-minute massage, one-on-one coaching, a silent walk, organic meals, and lots of yoga. Zeeland, here we come.

5. A day with yourself
When was the last time you did that? A good reason to go on a One Day Retreat to slow down for a day with yoga nidra (which I love), writing assignments, walks in nature, and setting personal intentions. By the way, you can also go on a silent retreat or do a lot of yoga through One Day Retreats, it just depends on what you need.

But someday I will do an Eat-Pray-Love week, among Tibetan monks, and I will tell you all about it. Promise.
