Piero’s (Ledig Erf 10, Utrecht)
Four antipasti dishes. Ten classic pizzas. Three pastas and one dessert. The menu at Piero’s is everything an average person with choice stress would be happy about. The tagliatelle with truffle, spinach, cream, garlic, and butter is the absolute showstopper. Although the gnocchi with gorgonzola, radicchio, and cream is not far behind. Sigh...
Impero Romano (Amsteldijk 25, Amsterdam)
In the time when we still worked in the office and we ‘celebrated things’ in restaurants, we were regulars at Impero. Our cucina Italiana, the restaurant of the buttery burrata. From the bruschetta. The cold glasses of Verdejo. But of course, especially the famous truffle pasta. Impero Romano... They deliver via Uber Eats. Error In Bovenkamer. Trust me, you want this.
De Pizzabakkers (23 locations, where are they not?)
De Pizzabakkers is for everyone who loves artisanal pizzas and enjoys a glass of prosecco. I, uh, felt immediately addressed. They are located all over the country (Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Nijmegen, Zwolle, Haarlem, Zaandam, Arnhem, Hilversum, Leiden, Delft) and this is what you call Artisanal Pizzas with a capital P. Baked in Italian wood-fired ovens, making the crust crispy, thin, and full of flavor. Be sure to get the arugula-fennel salad with Parmesan cheese and lemon dressing on the side.
Il Fiore (Kesselskade 59, Maastricht)
Ugh. I ate here once and the love for pure cuisine takes precedence in this restaurant. Chef Dino has become quite a name, among other things for his famous melanzana alla parmigiana, but also for the creamy burrata, fresh sea urchin, and caviar on the menu. On Saturdays and Sundays, the takeaway experience is even more special, as a special drive-thru opens where Diana hands over the dishes at a safe distance. And, am I reading something about home delivery by drone? Niente è impossible!
