Nacho's rendang should be on the menu everywhere

Nachos ala window 33

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the food lovers of online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat and what to cook. This time our chefs serve you: wwhy rendang nachos should be on every menu.

Earlier I wrote that satay sauce is delicious with literally everything (which is more of a fact than an opinion in my view), but that also applies to rendang. Although that is more of a topping. Rendang sandwich: top. Rice with rendang: of course top. Fries with rendang: YES PLEASE. And now my newest favorite: rendang nachos. Sooo delicious.

Found! Great spot for rendang nachos
And of course you can make it yourself (for example with my slow cooker recipe) and then some nachos in the oven, pour the rendang over it and you're done... Or you find a nice place where they have just put this on the menu. I found that a lot easier, even though I still see it way too little on the menus.

But ‘seek and you shall find’ they always say, right? In this case, it's more a matter of ‘the persistent one wins’, because I just nagged the owner until he finally gave in. I now snack on rendang nachos weekly and I'm happy.

This place is Window 33 in the Amsterdam Pijp and here they also make the best Moscow Mules in Amsterdam and surroundings and believe me: I am a connoisseur. The rest of the menu is also genuinely delicious, but whatever you do: order those rendang nachos.

DIY rendang nachos
Do you want to make them yourself? That's fine too. It's actually quite simple. It mainly takes time to make the rendang, which makes it all worth it (and you really have zero effort with that slow cooker).

  1. Put the nachos in a dish with cheddar on top in a preheated oven at 200 degrees.
  2. Take them out after about ten minutes (when the cheese is nicely melted).
  3. Add jalapeños, red onion and some avocado on top.
  4. And then: pour the rendang over it. Add some spring onion on top to finish it off and dig in!
  5. Add a lime and what is also of course a winner: guacamole (this is how you make the tastiest) and/or sour cream.

Preferably vegetarian?
You can also make a rendang from jackfruit. Super tasty and completely vegetarian. You can find the recipe here.
