The leather of these shoes is made from wine

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: the leather of these shoes is made from wine.

That I came across these shoes is really meant to be. I have actually resolved not to buy leather anymore (sad for the animals), although I find the kijk look of it very beautiful. And especially for sneakers. So now I have found the perfect alternative: sneakers made from grape leather.

I scored them at the Green Sneaker Store by ABCB in Amsterdam (but they also have a really nice online webshop).

Leather from grapes and wine? How is that possible?
Well, let me explain. The ‘leather’ on the outside is made up of 50 percent grape skins, the leftover from making wine. How cool is that? By the way, all their shoes are completely organic and sustainable. There are also sneakers made from hemp. Hilarious, right?
