7 x trends we hope to leave behind in 2021

The year 2022 is now very close, which means it's almost time for new and refreshing trends. So were there some misses in the past year? No worries: new round, new chances. I have spotted quite a few trends myself, which I hope we absolutely do not take with us to 2022. If you already have all these trends at home, don't mourn: I'm just giving my unfiltered opinion from behind my laptop in a gigantic tracksuit.
G-string
As far as I'm concerned, we can really leave the visible strings in 2021. In the 90s, we simply wore a string in combination with ultra-low pants – making the string visible – but I have seen pants (and skirts) this past year with a ’built-in‘ string. Well, I have some thoughts on that. This is just extremely vulgar and, in my opinion, not classy at all.

Plastic slippers
Even worse than Crocs, I find these plastic slippers, which we spotted a bit too often last summer. Of course, this was in response to the pricey Yeezy variant, which was heavily promoted by Ye and all the Kardashians. Many brands followed suit by imitating this slipper, which isn't very complicated, as it's just a chunk of plastic. Let's try to stick to the (also not very charming) Birkenstocks.

High rubber boots
With this trend, I'm just not so sure. I admit that I absolutely ordered these boots, but then returned them. There's something clunky about these boots, which is why I don't think they look good under dresses and skirts. It's perhaps more suitable for a rainy festival with a lot of mud. After all, they are just rubber boots. Well, to make a long story short: in my opinion, it's just not a very flattering boot.

Colored plastic rings
I have also fully participated in this trend, but I prefer to leave it behind in 2021. When I wear these rings, I always feel like I'm walking around with my little niece's rings or that I pulled them out of a gumball machine. The rings are made of plastic, and they clearly look that way, which I think is what bothers me. Oh well, I've learned from it.
Tie-dye
Well, guilty again. Because did I enthusiastically participate in the tie-dye trend during the lockdown? Absolutely. I made everything tie-dye, from socks to entire tracksuits. But now that I see these items lying in my closet, I find them quite childish and rather ugly. A bit too 2012, I don't know how else to describe it. By the way, I do find it remarkable that so many brands still sell this well, since it's really easy to do yourself. Maybe I should start my own business in this?

Pointed nails
This just makes me a bit irritable. This is more of a claw than a hand, right? I believe I first saw this nail shape with Kylie, and I spot them way too often. For me, this isn't it, at least.
Lace-up pants
The same goes for me as for the G-string: let it go. Britney and Christina rocked them, but it's really time to let go now. It's just not classy and definitely not timeless. The latter gives me hope; maybe 2021 was just that one crazy year for these kinds of items. Let's hope for something more classic pieces in 2022.
