5x the best food walks in the Netherlands

Walking, walking, and more walking. By now, we must be more than fed up with walking, but it is what it is for now. Besides all that staying at home, it is of great importance that we still take our steps, even if we don't always feel like it. However, what a person always seems to feel like (at least it seems to me) is good food. A walk combined with good food (and drinks) sounds a lot more tempting, right? The hospitality industry may close at 5:00 PM, but takeout is simply possible, and that's why I'm sharing the following walks where you can pick up food from restaurants and then go for a nice walk. These ‘food walks’ can be found all over the country. Usually, you pay a fixed amount and sign up in advance. You then receive a strip card with which you can pick up a snack (and often a drink) at the participating restaurants. Then you walk it off right away. Ideal, right? Enjoy!

1. The Oyster Walk (Amsterdam)
Are you a fan of oysters? Then this slurp tour in Amsterdam is definitely for you. During this walk, you will visit five to six restaurants, where you will receive different oysters each time along with a delicious glass of wine or bubbles. It's quite a decadent walk, I must say. The walk takes place every Saturday, and for about €35, you get five to eight oysters and three to five drinks. You can take this delightful oyster tour through Amsterdam-West, East, or the Center. I will definitely walk it at least once. For tickets click here.

2. Le Food Walk (Amsterdam, Haarlem, and Utrecht)
I think it would be fun to do this walk not in your own city. This way, you get to know a new city at a rapid pace, enjoying all sorts of delicious dishes from nice restaurants. From ceviche to go to a delicious slice of pizza, there is more than enough choice. On December 18 and 19, they even have special Christmas editions. And good news for vegetarians: it is possible to order a veggie ticket. The costs for this walk are between €35 and €40, depending on the route you choose. For this money, you get four to five snacks and two drinks. Quite a good deal, right? For tickets click here.

3. WijnSpijs (throughout the Netherlands)
For wine lovers, there is good news: you can actually do this culinary wine walk throughout the Netherlands. From Roermond to Zutphen, name a place and WijnSpijs is nearby. This way, you can enjoy a menu that has been lovingly crafted by experienced chefs and sommeliers in a different city every weekend. The nice thing about this walk is that you choose your own route, allowing you to make it as long or short as you want. The prices per arrangement vary quite a bit, as you can also completely customize it to your own wishes. Through the website, you can indicate where and how many dishes you would like to taste, with or without a wine arrangement. This walk might turn out to be a bit more expensive, but then you have a very special walk.

4. City Walk (throughout the Netherlands)
The City Walk is a collaboration between Travelbase and employees in the hospitality industry who lost their jobs due to corona. The project aims to support local hospitality and give them a fresh start when corona is over. Look, I think that's a nice initiative: support your locals. For this walk, you buy a ticket for the route in advance for €3.50. Then, during the walk, you decide at which places you want to eat and drink, and you settle the bill at the restaurant on the spot. Besides the route, you also get funny questions and assignments for the road. Quite suitable for a first date, for example. For tickets click here.

5. Tasty Walk (throughout the Netherlands)
Wherever you live in the Netherlands, the chances are high that there is a Tasty Walk near you. During this walk, you always pass by six different eateries where you get delicious dishes. Which restaurants they will be is always a surprise; you only find out when you have ordered a ticket. Now and then, they also have special editions, such as the ‘Amsterdam Lobster Walk’ or the ‘vrijmipro’ variant for Friday afternoons. How fun! For €36, you can taste six delicious snacks.
