The best Thai hotspots in Amsterdam

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: Thai hotspots in Amsterdam.
Ask me what I like so much about green curry and I can talk to you for at least an hour, after which I will start a plea about the amazing Thai cuisine in general. The fact that I have never been to Thailand is a big downside for me. Just for the food, I would love to go there. Fortunately, there are also a few great Thai restaurants in Amsterdam. You really need to know these 13 hotspots. Takeout is possible, and some also deliver. So no excuse not to try these Thai gems.
The Golden Brown Bar
My absolute favorite when it comes to Thai food and coziness. Just an incredibly fun restaurant where you prefer to linger over a meal rather than quickly gulp down a hot curry, which many ‘real’ Thai spots tend to have. The beer menu is also a big plus, it's very extensive with beers from Asia.
Jan Pieter Heijestraat 146, Amsterdam
Bird
A well-known name in Amsterdam, because any lover of Thai cuisine has eaten at Bird at least once. To be completely honest, I don't think Bird is the absolute best in Amsterdam, but it is certainly good. And especially the snack bar Bird, across from the restaurant. Yes, there is a difference. At the snack bar, it's a bit less cozy, but sometimes it's just about the food.
Zeedijk 77, Amsterdam
Boiboi
Boiboi now has three locations in Amsterdam, so business is going well for this Thai spot, and rightly so! You can eat super delicious food in a nice setting. Long tables that you share with others (of course all corona-proof at the moment). Don't eat too much beforehand, because you definitely want to try all the appetizers here. And the Pad Thai, because they are famous for that.
Pieter Vlamingstraat 56 (takeout/delivery only), Dapperstraat 12 & Heemstedestraat 27, Amsterdam
Thai Deum
My standard go-to when I order Thai takeout. First of all, because it's close to my house and secondly because it's really incredibly delicious. Very spicy (I always order the green curry and tom yam), so you have to be able to handle that a bit. They have a tiny terrace in front where you can sit and eat. Unfortunately, they don't do delivery.
Ceintuurbaan 210, Amsterdam
Naa Thai
If you do like Thai food but can't handle spicy food very well, then this is a good option. Still spicy but not like many authentic Thai restaurants in Amsterdam. This is adjusted to the Western palate: lots of vegetables and a bit more accessible. Takeout and delivery are also possible. Recommended!
Sarphatipark 18, Amsterdam
Warie’s Thai Food
You can't really call this a true hotspot, but it's a gem among the Thuisbezorgd restaurants (but takeout is of course possible too). Really very tasty, and if I may believe the visitors from Thailand, this comes very close to what you get served there.
Rozengracht 235, Amsterdam
Khorat Top Thai
A bit pricier than the previous places where you can order, but it's really worth every cent. You definitely get a gigantic portion (and then rice on top), so usually I can eat from it for two days. Khorat Top Thai is really recommended if you like well-filled curries that are indeed spicy.
Tweede Constantijn Huygenstraat 64, Amsterdam
O-Cha
So deliciously authentic, and yet a bit of a well-kept secret among lovers of Asian food. You can't make reservations, they don't have a website, the staff doesn't really speak Dutch, and the place itself isn't exactly atmospheric. But the food... My god, it's so good!
Binnen Bantammerstraat 1, Amsterdam
Maenaam Thai
This Thai spot is always mentioned when talking about the best Thai restaurants in Amsterdam. Once it was an undiscovered gem, now it is fully discovered. Good for them, a bit less good for us, because it is almost always full in terms of seating. Fortunately, they also do Thuisbezorgd, and you even get a 10 percent discount. Hoppa!
Spuistraat 90, Amsterdam
Silom Thai Brasserie
From the same owners as Bird, but if you didn't know that, you probably wouldn't notice. The same high quality of food, but in terms of kijk and feel it has nothing to do with each other. When you walk into Silom Thai, you don't really feel like you're in a Thai restaurant, it's more of a trendy hotspot. Nice if you want to go out for a nice meal, but still looking for that authentic Pad Thai.
Voetboogstraat 13, Amsterdam
Thaicoon
The name... Well, I have some thoughts on that and that's why I almost didn't give it a chance. I thought that a restaurant that calls itself Thaicoon really couldn't serve good Thai dishes. But well, I'm not too proud to admit my mistake: it's incredibly delicious here. And gi-gantic portions. I love that.
Beukenplein 10, Amsterdam
Chutima’s Thai Food House
This is my personal well-kept secret, but here you go: I'm sharing it with you. Make sure to take out here, because it's not super cozy inside and they don't do delivery. And also take your time, because it can take a while. I sound super negative now, but it's absolutely not, because everyone comes back here for the food. SO DELICIOUS!
Scheldestraat 112, Amsterdam
Kevin Bacon Bar
The restaurant of Hotel Not Hotel, where they serve not only Thai dishes (and many delicious appetizers) but also a lot of cocktails. And honestly: that's quite a tasty combo. Many cocktails have a Thai twist (with coriander syrup, for example, and yes: that's really good), but the classics are also all on the menu.
Witte de Withstraat 13, Amsterdam
Extra tips: are you going to order Thai? Then also think of these Thuisbezorgd restaurants: Baibua Thai Eethuis, Cookkai, Muang Thai, Top Thai Thuis, Song Kwae Thai Food and Krua Thai.
