The best show of the year

There are fashion shows where runway pieces are shown that are purchased by stores, and there are couture shows where pieces are worn that are all unique, and on top of that, there are the Métiers d’art of Chanel where craftsmanship is cherished. You should know that Chanel bought all the private craftsmanship houses (the ateliers responsible for the most beautiful embroideries, buttons, feathers, and flowers, and so on) years ago to prevent them from dying out. Chanel was able to ensure that the workers were well taken care of and that there was a continuous influx of new talent. The different ‘maisons’ Lesage, Lemarié, and Desrues are also allowed to work for other couture houses. But once a year, they celebrate (I seriously typed ‘we’, haha, I’m that involved) the craft with the Métiers d’art Show.
The theme and location always refer to a city that has been important in the life of Gabrielle Chanel. For example, I once attended Paris-Bombay (one of the most beautiful shows I have ever seen) and the entire group once traveled to Cuba. Since Gabrielle Chanel has not been with us for quite some time and the special locations are running out a bit (and Covid doesn’t help either), Chanel came up with something different. They created a completely new building, Le 19M, to host the Métiers d’art.
Anyway, if you click on the link, you can see the entire show and enjoy all the beauty that has been made with love under the guidance of Virginie Viard. But let me share some nice background information. For example, Pharrell Williams was there. And Sofia Coppola and Caroline de Maigret, Vanessa Paradis. And that Soo Joo Park played the soundtrack with Laura Bailey that was specially made for this show. And that the whole cool posse ate at La Coupole to celebrate everything and that MC Solaar performed there with Bambi Cruz. Oh, what a party. And if you click here, you’re still a bit part of it. And oh yes, there was of course again a sense of Dutch pride because Britt Oosten and Felice Nova from MichaModels walked along with Mirthe van Dijk.
