The online games we all used to play

There is one — very small — plus point of this miserable summer. I feel like I've finished all of Netflix by now, I've read all the books, so I was a bit bored and uninspired. I felt like a little girl living at home who would complain to her parents that she was bored, assuming that your parents always have a solution. They had that solution, or so they thought: ‘You really need to entertain yourself.’ Great then. That was exactly no help.
So, what did I often do back then? EXACTLY, play The Sims. Or Rollercoaster Tycoon. And what have I been doing lately? Juusssst, exactly those old games again. Nostalgia at its best. Because nowadays there are probably really cool games that are much better and prettier, but this list remains the most enjoyable for me.
1. The Sims
You can never convince me that this was NOT the best game of all time. When only part 1 was out, I found it so addictive that it was unbearable. I spent hours on it. I now have part 4 on my laptop, and yes: that's also very fun, but as far as I'm concerned, that version gives you a bit too much freedom and possibilities. Sometimes happiness lies in simplicity, like having children and neglecting them so much that they get picked up by child protection, but not letting them in because you've locked them in a room without windows and doors. Or starting an affair with your neighbor AND neighbor. Even better: starting an affair with the Grim Reaper. Forbidden love at its best. All in your dream house where people keep drowning in your pool.
2. Rollercoaster Tycoon
I've completely rediscovered this addiction. If I may say so myself, I am really a mega good theme park builder. I really love amusement parks and often recognize roller coasters when I see ads for parks abroad. Not because I've been there, but from Rollercoaster Tycoon. Of course, I increased the speed of the Shuttle Loop so that everyone died, and when I had enough visitors, I blocked the entrance and exit. Wonderful, all those angry and sad little figures just screaming: ‘I want to get out of the park and can't find the exit.’
3. Neopets
I wanted to play this again, but it just doesn't exist anymore. WHUT. Or well, the site still exists but it's unrecognizable. I had – if I may say so myself – a very cute Neopet with which I often won prizes because I forced it to participate in various competitions. And meanwhile playing games and winning pizza slices. This was so addictive and I genuinely regret that the whole site is gone.
4. Habbo Hotel
Honestly: I played this quite often but I never understood it. Was there a clear goal in this game? You could meet new people and chat with them, and get banned for using swear words too often. I really enjoyed discovering the different rooms, but it's less fun if you can't win or lose with a game. And, by the way, Habbo Hotel still exists, in case you want to play it.
5. Jack Jazz Rabbit
So incredibly frustrating, this game, because I was terrible at it. I can handle my losses, but if you've been at it for hours and haven't progressed a single level, I can get a bit aggressive. So I also haven't checked if you can still play this, because I get angry just thinking about it.
6. Lion King
Pure stress when you reached the level where you had to dodge the antelopes. My god, I'm spontaneously getting a sweat attack. I was a huge fan of Disney and The Lion King, so this was a top game for me. And a bit easier than the Disney game Aladdin, which was truly impossible to finish. Has anyone ever succeeded in that?
Okay, I can really make this list endless of course. Because Donkey Kong is also part of it and all kinds of Super Mario games. And of course Sim City, Street Racer, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat. But I'll just end it with very good news: you can still play all these games online: on the website ArcadeSpot. https://arcadespot.com/ I'm currently in the middle of a game of Donkey Kong Country and I can tell you: it's just as fun as it used to be.
