This is how celebrities reacted to last night

Trump

I probably don't need to tell you what happened last night, but in case you missed it: the American Capitol was stormed yesterday afternoon (American time) by thousands of Trump ‘supporters’. I indeed put supporters in quotation marks, because this had nothing to do with that anymore. Nor with protesters. They were domestic terrorists, as CNN called them, and I found that quite appropriate.

I really didn't know what I was seeing, live on CNN. And how much I initially thought Trump was an idiot, a terrible guy, but above all stupid and deceitful, it is now just becoming scary. That someone can have so much influence, that so many people listen to him. Earlier yesterday, Trump indicated that he would join the protest, but of course he was nowhere to be seen and was safely inside the White House following it all on TV, just like us. In the meantime, his weak video message has also been removed, rightly so if you ask me, his Twitter account has been blocked, and his other social media channels have also been dealt with.

Of course, this has not gone unnoticed in celebrity land, where many have been anti-Trump from the start. They have certainly made their voices heard. A little overview.

Many are advocating that Trump be removed from his position today. There is now serious talk about whether that will happen through the 25th Amendment or through Impeachment. The tricky part is that he will be replaced by Biden in 14 days (which I am also a bit afraid of — how will that inauguration go?).

If he is removed through the 25th Amendment, a two-thirds majority is needed in the Senate to vote for it. That could be tricky, because — you won't believe it — there are quite a few Trump supporters in there. Those who opposed him have long since left or been fired. On top of that, a protest can be filed against this decision. A ‘solution’ would be to stretch this out for a long time, so that protest is no longer possible for the time that Biden is president. Another downside: if he is removed this way, he may still hold a political office in the future.

In an impeachment, that is not allowed, and that would mean we would never hear from a Donald J. Trump about American politics again (except on Twitter probably). That would of course be ideal, and it seems they are busy behind the scenes to get everything down on paper for this. To be continued, of course.
