Spend a weekend in Sas van Gent

I am a bit biased because I spent seven intensely happy years of my life in the Zeeland region, but you could also say that I know what I'm talking about. And I have certainly been around when it comes to visiting the better shops and restaurants.
During this Covid period, you have probably parked that trip to New York, Paris, or London for a while. But take a trip to Sas van Gent. Really, you won't have enough time to visit all the highlights.
Shopping at Bankgeheim
Owner Marie-Kristien is a beautiful, stylish woman who runs an enormous store with the most beautiful brands. I always find it so nice about shops like this that they are sourced with a unique eye. Marie-Kristien has my favorite brand Ulla Johnson (this dress, I simply must have), but also Monoki, who have truly amazing kimonos in their collection. Just throw on some jeans and you're ready. She also has Vince, the comfort-chic Lisa Yang, Missoni, Xirena, and my favorite sportswear brand (you can also comfortably wear it to the supermarket) Deblon Sports and many more special brands that you really have to work hard to be able to sell as a shop. Just in case you can't hold back already... You can also shop online, so you can get all that goodness from Sas van Gent delivered to your home (ordered before 14:00, delivered tomorrow for free).
Markt 7, Sas van Gent
A drink
After shopping, you're probably thirsty. You can quench that at wine bar Bottles Next Door, which has the largest wine list in the Netherlands.
Bottles Next Door, Gentsestraat 11, Sas van Gent.
A bite
Dockside Bar & Grill: roasted cherry tomatoes with Greek yogurt and naan bread, albondigas in tomato sauce, and preferably all with local products.
Westkade 111, Sas van Gent
If you're in the area...
- Then eat at Auberge des Moules in the village of Philippine (Visserslaan 3, Philippine).
- Or experience a masterful culinary experience at De Kromme Watergang by Edwin Sinke (Slijkplaat 6 in Hoofdplaat).
- Step on the gas and visit Ghent (twenty minutes drive).
- Dine at Pure C by chef Syrco Bakker (Boulevard de Wielingen 49, Cadzand-Bad), sleep in the beach hotel (same building), and eat the next day at Blueness by Sergio Herman (all under the same roof, what more could one want?).
Did I say a weekend in Sas van Gent? I would make it a week.
