Why Carrie Bradshaw is the most terrible character ever

Carrie Bradshaw, the most terrible character from Sex and the City

Yes, I know: Sex and the City is a bit sacred. In terms of setting (New York is always a joy), fashion, and of course all the men and the women themselves. But for example, I'm not mega enthusiastic about that reboot, for the obvious reason that Samantha is not participating and that means Carrie will be even more in the spotlight. And that's not really what we want, is it?

Because honestly: I tried to rewatch the series two years ago and it just didn't work. What a horror that woman is. Then I tried the movie, part 2 was on Netflix. Didn't work either. What a selfish, spoiled, superficial, and downright disgusting person Carrie is. Now I could seriously write a whole book about the things that are wrong with the second SATC movie, but I'll spare you that. No, it's about Carrie now and because she's a fictional character, we can totally roast her in a not very nice way, right? Here it comes.

1. She was such a bad friend to her surroundings
I could seriously write a whole book about this, but I'll keep it short. She wasn't really a top friend to any of her friends. In the end, everything revolved around Carrie herself. Miranda wants to have an abortion? Just leave it to Carrie to make the upcoming days all about her and her own past abortion. Why should you be there for your friend? Anyway, Miranda had a tough time with a friend like Carrie, because when she was really struggling after her childbirth, that was totally uninteresting, because Carrie had to talk about an ex-girlfriend of Aiden who looked at her unkindly in the bathroom. Pfff. And poor Charlotte too, by the way, who got a hard time when she didn't want to lend Carrie money to buy a house. How dare she, that Charlotte?

2. She never acted like a responsible adult
Not that I really feel like a mature thirty-something, and I'm totally an advocate of the idea that you're as young as you feel and that being an adult doesn't really exist, but there are limits. You have your fixed expenses that you need to pay and in the meantime, she's buying tens of thousands of euros worth of shoes. And then being outraged that you can't fix a down payment for your house (and getting mad at Charlotte when she doesn't want to be your personal bank).

3. She treated the men around her like crap
Justice for Aiden. In the series, that is, because she treated him so poorly. Constantly ridiculing him (about the house he built himself; what have you done in the meantime, Carrie?), cheating, wanting him back and then dumping him again. Ugh, ugh, ugh.

4. She was anything but open-minded
And then you're a sex columnist, huh. Okay, sure: those were different times back then. But really: a sex columnist who believes that bisexuality doesn't exist? A sex columnist who constantly ridicules Samantha for her sexual escapades and meanwhile has affairs that no one is allowed to comment on, where her friends also support her in that? However, they can't expect the same in return. So shortsighted all of it, just like when Samantha had gained some weight in the first movie and Carrie naturally had to have an opinion about that. Oh, and let's not forget that she thinks therapy is for people who ‘can't solve their own problems.’.

PS. I also find her way of speaking so annoying. That sighing manner. But I also know that that's not a valid reason to dislike someone. But I do want to mention it, because it does bother me quite a bit.
