Why the documentaries about Britney Spears are hypocritical

Yes, it's there: Britney vs. Spears. Now available on Netflix. But if you happen to be in America, there's also a docu available on Hulu: Controlling Britney Spears. That's a follow-up to their previous docu, Framing Britney Spears. I've seen the latter, but I guess I'll skip the other two for now. Just like the other docu's that will undoubtedly come (like the one from CNN). Why? I find it a bit hypocritical.

Because what it ultimately comes down to is that these streaming services make money by creating a docu about the exploitation of Britney Spears. While... Aren't they doing exactly the same thing? I believe Miss Spears has indicated multiple times that she just wants to live her life, have peace from the media, not be constantly scrutinized, followed everywhere, and repeatedly confronted with, for example, her rather public breakdown. This is also mentioned in all these docu's, which completely disregard that and do exactly what they literally proclaim Britney Spears does not support.

Moreover, the documentary on Netflix — I've read this, because again: I'm not going to watch it — has put its own spin on things. As we all know by now, Britney Spears has not lived her own life for more than a decade. In fact, her private conversations were monitored, her phone was checked just like all her other communications: really hellish. And then she spoke up once. Once told how she really feels about it, how she stands in this situation, and perhaps most importantly: what she wants for herself.

And that was in court, where she spoke for the first time. You would think that a gigantic platform like Netflix would pay attention to that, right? Not at all. My only hesitation to watch the docu was removed when I read that they hardly pay attention to Britney's own plea.

So yes, sorry, I'm skipping these docu's for now. Leave Britney alone is still relevant to me, and I do that by not supporting these kinds of initiatives. Well, every little bit helps, right?

Fiancé Sam Asghari has also spoken out and fortunately shares my opinion. And, Netflix: that would indeed be a nice gesture to make. All the money you earn off Britney's misery should end up in a good place.
