Why The Real Housewives of NY is terrible

Real Housewives NY

Sorry, that sounds incredibly rude right away, but otherwise I wouldn't have caught your attention. I was/am a huge fan of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The over-the-top houses, the characters, the army of staff, the private jets, the arguments, the parties (that's how I still experience a bit of a party every now and then): I devour it. Dear people at Netflix, will you buy the other seasons too? I solemnly promise that I will do everything I can to get all my girlfriends addicted. To TRHOBH, that is.

Because there was a big gaping hole when I had devoured all the seasons, I decided to push through to the New York version. Because there are also spoiled ladies in ridiculously expensive houses and didn't I love New York at least as much as LA? Well. Something about a cold fair and coming home from it. Nothing to it.

First of all, I don't like the women. The first one I see thinks being sexy is the most important thing. Having a job is mainly an aphrodisiac. I see her clad in tops and skirts (fashionably not very interesting), writhing against her husband on a dance floor and kissing a friend on the mouth whom she just tossed into the pool. And all the while her daughter watches in horror. The other characters are also not very interesting as far as I'm concerned. Not necessarily something wrong with that, but as bubbly as ‘my’ Lisa Vanderpump and Adrienne Maloof and as well-dressed and cozy as Kyle, none of that.

What is also true, and the New York ladies can't necessarily help it, is that New York is of course so ridiculously expensive that a four million dollar apartment still looks like a student room. I'm exaggerating, but really just a little bit. It's impressive that they manage to maneuver the camera crew in there. Thank goodness there are The Hamptons where they find refuge and there is literally a bit more lebensraum, but I don't know. I'm not into it. Or should I just detach myself from my Californian girlfriends for a moment and start fresh with new eyes? What do you think?
