Why you shouldn't drink a cup of coffee first thing in the morning

Ha, got you there, huh? You little sipper. Caffeine junkie. Coffee pooper. Now, of course, I'm mainly talking about myself, because I feel heavily addressed by a title like this. I drink coffee immediately in the morning. First thing. In fact: my love usually goes to the office just a bit earlier (or should I say: at all to the office) and usually brings a steaming cup of pleasure up the stairs just before that.

The fact that we are massively addicted to caffeine seems to be going under the radar. All for a nice kickstart to the day, right? Yet it seems that downing a cup of coffee right away is not so good for your body. At least, not before you have first drunk a glass of water.

Why? Because you lose a lot of moisture at night. Just try the test. Step on the scale before going to bed and do the same as soon as you get up. The chances are high that you weigh one kilogram less in the morning. How come? While sleeping, your body releases moisture to the environment (through your breathing and sweat, brrr). This moisture loss can amount to more than one liter per night – in some cases even two and a half liters. Swallow.

‘In the morning, you are actually a kind of dehydrated cucumber. And then you pour coffee down your throat first thing, which means you have to go to the toilet faster = even more moisture loss. Although coffee is just a liquid (and thus in that sense counteracts dehydration, you would say), the caffeine causes the moisture to leave your body faster, as it stimulates the kidneys.

Well, not necessarily harmful otherwise, but also not really the best way to hydrate your somewhat dehydrated body, so early in the morning. The best thing you can do is start with a glass of water. Do you still want coffee in the morning? Then wait until ten o'clock. According to research, that is the best time for your cup.
