Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: 6x tips for the tastiest Aperol Spritz.

The Aperol Spritz is one of the tastiest and also one of the easiest cocktails ever. But no matter how simple the recipe seems, there are always a few points of perfection that ensure your homemade Aperol Spritz tastes just as good as that of the best bartender in the world. Follow these tips from expert and bartender Michele Alfonso, and make the perfect Aperol Spritz time and time again.

1. Always use prosecco. After all, you are making an Italian cocktail. Plus, prosecco has a slightly fruitier and sweeter taste than other bubbles and therefore works best in combination with Aperol.

2. Use a long drink glass. Many people serve the spritz in a wine or cocktail glass. However, you can better serve the cocktail in a long drink glass because the long shape helps retain the bubbles of the prosecco. In a wine or cocktail glass, the bubbles dissipate faster.

3. Chilled is better. Always store Aperol in the fridge, then the cocktail tastes so much better!

4. First ice and prosecco, then Aperol. This way you prevent the Aperol from staying at the bottom of the glass, and it mixes better in this order.

5. Although an orange slice is the traditional way to serve an Aperol Spritz, you can also opt for a lemon slice for an extra fresh taste. Olives also go well with prosecco – if you want to give the drink a savory twist.

6. Last but not least and perhaps the most important tip of all: the 3-2-1 method. Always use 3 parts prosecco, 2 parts Aperol, and 1 part sparkling water. This way, the proportions are always right!
