Yesss, true crime lovers: you want to see this on Netflix

Ohhh, it has been so nice to be a true crime lover lately. Where I used to be afraid to tell anyone who my favorite serial killer was, you can now have entire conversations about it. Having a fascination for unsolved murders has never been so normal. Watching documentaries, series, and movies about the most bizarre psychopaths: nothing wrong with that. And luckily, Netflix has noticed that too. In fact: they are feeding us with it, because there is a new docuseries online and it looks goooood.

The Sons of Sam: A descent into Darkness is its full title and it consists of four episodes. The docuseries is made by journalist Maury Terry, who developed quite an obsession with the Son of Sam case during his career, a serial killer in New York City. Better said: the biggest serial killer the city has ever known.

This Son of Sam was also known as the .44 Caliber Killer but is actually named David Berkowitz. For over a year, in the 1970s, he terrorized New York with his murders, resulting in the deaths of six young people and injuring seven others. Generally, his targets were young, attractive women with long brown hair; this led to women who fit this description massively opting for a pixie cut with bleaching.

He only got the nickname Son of Sam after he was arrested. He claimed that his neighbor (Sam Carr) had a black Labrador that gave him orders to carry out these murders. Uhhh... Okay then.

Journalist Maury Terry was also convinced that his murders had to be linked to satanic beliefs, or even a certain cult. He does not accept it when Berkowitz is arrested and tells the story of a possessed dog that gives him orders: according to him, John Carr (yes, the Son of Sam) plays a bigger role than initially assumed.

Really a must-see for every true crime lover, because it literally has everything. Tension, a serial killer, conspiracy theories that may or may not be true, and did I mention tension? I would say, plan that documentary night.
