You haven't seen New York like this on Netflix before

Concrete jungle where dreams are made ooooooffff. Yes, I am one of the millions who has also completely fallen in love with New York. Love at second sight by the way, because when I first walked around there as a twelve-year-old girl, I found it all way too busy. Way too big. And everyone was running around like a headless chicken. I got completely stressed out by it, and besides, I am not taller than 1.60 now and I certainly wasn't back then. So I saw nothing but people running past me around Times Square.

But that love blossomed completely when I went back at 22. Then it was on. That those people were not running around like headless chickens but actually knew exactly where they wanted to go, I realized then too. New York is, in my opinion, different from all other cities. And yes, that can of course be both an advantage and a disadvantage.

The strongest opinions about it come from the true New Yorkers, and two of them are central in the new Netflix hit Pretend it’s a city. Two people who discuss their love and hate for the city at the same time. Oh, and you probably already know those two people: Martin Scorsese and Fran Lebowitz. The latter may not be familiar to you, but she is a good friend of Scorsese and a writer who collaborated with Andy Warhol among others.

In seven episodes of half an hour each, they observe the city, make the funniest comments, and share personal, sharp anecdotes from their lives as younger New Yorkers. Wonderful to watch, especially Fran Lebowitz. She can come out with such delightful remarks, and she tells so vividly that I can only think: ‘I want to go back to New York. NOW.’ Well, that it is anything but possible, we will just forget for a moment.
