You want to taste these fried cheesecake balls

Fried cheesecake balls

Say wine, snacks or haute cuisine and the gourmands at online food magazine FavorFlav know where to drink, how to eat it and what to cook. This time our cheffies serve you: you want to try these fried cheesecake balls.

This. MUST. I. That was my first thought when I heard about fried cheesecake balls. Honestly: I can't imagine that you wouldn't want to try this. Does everything get better by throwing it in the fryer? Who's to say (me: yes)? These cheesecake bites are definitely a recommendation. Yes, and also a calorie bomb. But a cheat day has to be part of it to keep you a little mentally healthy, right?

INGREDIENTS

  • 200g Digestive biscuits or Bastogne cookies
  • 250g sugar
  • 100g butter (melted)
  • 675g cream cheese
  • 4 eggs
  • Frying oil
  • 250ml milk
  • Oriental spring roll pancakes (as many as the number of balls you want to make)
  • Icing sugar
  • Optional: chocolate bar
  • Optional: chocolate sauce, whipped cream

You do need to set aside some time for this, because the cheesecake you are going to fry is not a no-bake cheesecake. An oven is also involved, but personally, I think that's the tastiest kind of cheesecake.

Ready, set, go
Okay, here it comes: the tastiest sweet bites from the fryer in the history of ever!

For the cheesecake:

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  • Mix the cookie crumbs, 50g sugar, and melted butter together, and once it has become a nice mixture: pour it into the baking pan and press it down well.
  • Bake for eight minutes in the oven and then place it in the refrigerator.
  • Put the cream cheese and sugar in a bowl and mix it with a mixer until it becomes a bit fluffy.
  • Then add the eggs one by one. If you want a chocolate cheesecake, you can add the chocolate afterwards (or liqueur, that's always a good idea, of course).
  • Pour the mixture into the baking pan and bake the cheesecake for 45 minutes. Let it cool for eight hours afterwards. Then you can cut it into small pieces (I personally think circles look the best).

For frying:

  • Set the fryer to 180 degrees.
  • Combine one egg with 250ml milk into a smooth mixture. You can dip the cheesecake pieces with a brush into (not too much!) this egg mixture.
  • Place each piece in one of the oriental pancakes and fold them inward at the middle of the top or bottom. Then roll them until they form a nice ball and there are no corners left open.
  • Fry away! Carefully (!) place them in the fryer and take them out when they are golden brown (about two minutes). Then dip them in some powdered sugar and your ultimate snack is ready. Let them cool on kitchen paper after the powdered sugar, and then the party can begin. DELICIOUS.
  • PS: You can pimp it even more with chocolate sauce or whipped cream, and if you're at it, I would definitely do that.
