Sudden acne in your thirties? This could be the cause

woman looking at herself in the mirror

In the past, there wasn't a single pimple to be seen on your whole face, or well, at most during your menstruation in your puberty. And now that you've passed thirty, some days you suddenly have them underneath. Spots, painful large bumps. What? Why? How can that be?

Too bad but true

Getting acne only after your thirties is quite common, and here's why. Unfortunately, it has everything to do with your hormones. Up to 40 percent of all adults (from 25 years old) experience acne at least occasionally. Pimples and spots are essentially nothing more than inflammations of the sebaceous glands. In your face, that is.

And there's not much you can do about it, because your cycle just keeps going. But because you are at your peak fertility around your thirties (and usually also get pregnant at some point during this age phase), it may be that you experience much more skin inflammation. Hormones are very different when you are an adult than when you are in puberty, so it could very well be that you are experiencing more issues now. Usually, you can see this reflected in the areas where the bumps are: is it around your jawline and in your neck? Then that's purely hormonal. Male hormones, such as androgens, are often the cause of pimples. It could be related to your menstruation, but also, for example, to your IUD or the pill. Is it on your forehead or on your cheeks, around your nose? Then it's a matter of eating healthier and removing your makeup better before going to sleep.

Checklist

Other causes can of course be stress, we all know that, and sugar and dairy can also make your skin impure. And what about contraception? Stopping the pill can be a clear cause of adult acne. Fun. Not. Here are some things you can keep in mind if you want to look fresh:

1. Smoking (don't do it)
2. Sugar and dairy (don't do it)
3. Hormones (you can't do anything about it)
4. Stress (get a massage once in a while)
5. Medication (not fun, but can also be a cause)
6. Makeup (use one layer less and clean yourself well before going to sleep)
7. Genetic predisposition (just ask your mother or father)

Enough reasons why you might be dealing with those spots, even in your thirties, forties, or fifties. But yes, how do you get rid of it? How do you achieve that peach-like baby skin? Don't squeeze too much yourself, but visit a dermatologist or beautician. Yes, that costs money. Nothing comes for free. So if you want a smooth face, invest in yourself, because you only have one skin. Usually, a good treatment will solve it. Keep this up every eight weeks and you'll definitely feel better in your skin. You can skip buying a pair of pants once, right?
