Amber Heard says she understands why the jury chose Depp

amber heard interview

The trial of the year (or maybe even the decade?) has come to an end and the big winner is Johnny Depp. He was already that before the verdict, because the whole internet seemed to agree: Amber Heard was the bad guy here. I seriously hung in front of the TV every day at exactly three o'clock, because that's when the trial started for us. And well, I also thought that Amber Heard didn't come off very well and that her evidence didn't really seem watertight, just like her contradictory stories. So I found it completely justified that the jury also decided in favor of Depp, and I toasted to that that evening.

But Amber Heard is not letting it go. Earlier, she indicated that she wanted to appeal, but now she has also given an interview with NBC. The first part of it was broadcast yesterday, the second part will be shown on American television tonight. And in it, she makes a few striking statements: for example, she says that she does understand that the jury sided with Depp.

‘I don't blame them. I actually understand it. He is a beloved character and people feel like they know him. He is a fantastic actor.’

But she is not so happy with the role of social media in particular: ‘I don't care what anyone thinks of me or what judgments you have about what happened in my own home, my private environment, in my marriage, behind closed doors. I don't assume that the average person should know these kinds of things and so I don't take it personally.’

She continues: ‘But even someone who is convinced that I deserve all the hate and spite, even if you think I'm lying, you still wouldn't be able to look me in the eye and tell me that there has been an honest representation on social media. You can't tell me that you think this has been fair.’

Well, it was indeed not very kind on social media for Amber Heard. And if it is indeed true that she is going to appeal, then that will probably remain the case for a while. What I find striking is that in the same interview she still claims to be the victim and that she was abused by Johnny Depp, but she hardly addresses the contradictions in her story and her own texts (in which she for example tells Johnny Depp ‘I started a physical fight’ while she still insists she never became physical with him, only as a reaction to him). Those texts are not true according to Heard and were said in the moment. So, lies. But we have to believe the rest. I have the feeling that this media circus is not over yet...
