Why everyone is talking about Stay Close

Last Friday, I was lying on the couch very content under my Netflix Christmas blanket (awkward that this has now become my favorite, because Christmas items really can't be used anymore) aimlessly scrolling through Netflix. No idea what to watch, completely out of inspiration, tired from the week, you know how it is: I just couldn't think and had a case of fried brains. So I asked the all-knowing oracle what I should watch. No, not Google or a Magic 8 Ball, but the people on Instagram.
One series stood out as a tip: Stay Close. I must admit that I hadn't heard of the series before Friday, and I didn't know it had been online since December 31. I was a bit late to the party, but better late than never. And if you haven't seen it yet, I'm passing on the tip because it's really very cool.
It's a very thrilling miniseries (it contains a total of eight episodes) starring Cush Jumbo. She plays Megan Pierce, a British woman with three children and a fiancé. Her life hasn't always been smooth sailing: her past is quite grim. A disappearance in England involving a boy going missing brings this past back to light.
Due to this disappearance, she comes into contact with a detective and a photographer she knows from the past. Will her past catch up with her, despite the fact that she has been running away for years? And what does the new disappearance of Carlton Flynn have to do with this?
This all sounds super vague, and I know that, but this is one of those series where you don't want to reveal the whole plot. You just have to see it. And yes: it's seriously thrilling and especially very addictive. It's one of those cases where you tell yourself ‘just one more episode...’ because you really want to know what happens next. It's a must-see for those who also love thrilling detectives (and then try to figure it out themselves and almost never get it right). Final score: an 8. Okay, an 8.5.
