Spotted at Chanel: the Black Swan look

chanel spring summer beauty make-up

The talk of the day during the haute couture spring/summer shows in Paris this time was not the clothing, but the black/grey eye makeup looks from the Chanel show, and I understand that. The beautifully heavily made-up eyes were a contrast to the summery clothing of creative director Virginie Viard, and I really like that. It reminded me a lot of one of my favorite movies: Black Swan, especially because of the eyes with the ‘double lines’ at the end made with the Style Yeux waterproof pencil and the Les 4 Ombres (334 Modern Glamour) powder eyeshadow. Chanel always comes up with the most creative beauty looks, which actually almost never need explanation: from punk hair, flowers to the tightest and most beautiful red lip. This year there was one makeup look that I didn't quite understand: the one with the blotchy eye. I wasn't the only one who had my doubts about that: many people reacted quite negatively to it, as it was associated with violence, and that is of course anything but glamorous. However, Chanel wouldn't be Chanel if they hadn't thought about it longer. This look was inspired by the pre-war avant-garde from the 1920s and 1930s, which the entire show was actually inspired by. People found this groundbreaking look complicated, while Chanel is known for the beautiful classic looks, just like the rest of the face was. The skin was as smooth as porcelain again, the eyebrows naturally styled with the Stylo Sourcils Waterproof and Le Gel Sourcils, and the models all wore the Rouge Coco Baume in ’920 In Love’ on their lips. Despite the many varying reactions, I found the other looks strikingly beautiful. Check them out below. What do you think?
