Want to see with your girlfriends: Good Luck To You, Leo Grande

Something I do far too little, because every time I find it so much fun: an evening at the cinema. I can genuinely enjoy that so much and no matter how comfortable my couch is, it never compares to the ultimate cinema experience. So I try to plan that more often with friends, which often ends up being on a weekday. I actually find that ideal too: having dinner together after work and then heading to the cinema. And of course, getting snacks there, because a movie isn't complete without them. One of my regular cinema friends pointed out the Ladies Night of Kinepolis. Here you see an exclusive screening of films that will premiere later, and it really is a night out including a welcome drink, goodie bags, and fun stands with all kinds of accessories, and also with prizes you can win. As the name suggests, this is really meant for a night out with friends, and since that's exactly what I need, there's another one planned for this week.
A fun detail about this Ladies Night is that I usually go because I find this initiative so enjoyable, but this time I'm really going because I want to see this film so badly. Next Wednesday, Good Luck To You, Leo Grande is showing with one of my great heroes, Emma Thompson, and Daryl McCormack. The trailer looks so hilarious that I truly have the utmost confidence that this is a top comedy.
A top comedy with a message: Good Luck To You is entirely about aging and sexuality, two subjects that are often seen as taboo when combined. In Good Luck To You, Nancy (Emma Thompson) seemingly has it all together: a man, a family, and a decent life, but her sex life is non-existent and she's unhappy about it. When her husband passes away, she decides to make some changes and really get down to business. Her solution: she invites sex worker Leo (Daryl McCormack) to a hotel room. The good sex she hoped for happens, but what she doesn't expect is that he also has something to say and that they actually have an incredible connection.
Well, you might see it coming: Nancy starts to like Leo more and more, but how should that work? She is of course paying him for his services, so that power dynamic is completely skewed. Yet they find it increasingly easier to connect and the boundaries between the two become more and more unclear.
As I said: I am really looking forward to this. Dry British humor, sharp dialogues, and topics are addressed that often make people a bit shy or embarrassed. In short: a film close to my heart.
Do you also want to go to Good Luck To You, Leo Grande on October 12? You can, because there are still tickets for the Ladies Night in Kinepolis locations — and you can find them all over the country.
