Why you should start watching Devil In Ohio on Netflix today

the devil in ohio

Wow, I completely missed this. Normally I'm so sharp: the latest movies and series on Netflix: I know them all. Except for Devil In Ohio, which suddenly appeared online and kept showing up at the top every time I opened Netflix. Netflix knows me pretty well by now, and that's why they also told me that this new series would fit my taste by no less than 98 percent.

Yesterday I started watching and I have to admit again that Netflix was right. By the way, I can now rely on them better than sometimes on my own friends; they sometimes come up with suggestions that I totally can't relate to. But this series. This. Series. It's really a gem, especially if you like scary series.

I've said it here before, but I find series or movies with young children inherently terrifying. Especially children who are incredibly grim, like The Ring, Insidious (one of the few movies I've actually watched with my hands over my eyes) and Orphan. If you also enjoy this kind of thing, then Devil In Ohio is definitely something for you. Another plus if you like grim cults like Keep Sweet, Prey and Obey, because there is also plenty of attention for that in Devil In Ohio.

Okay, maybe let's first discuss the plot: a psychiatrist takes in a girl named Mae, who has escaped from a cult where she experienced traumatic things but talks little about it. As a viewer, you occasionally see a flashback of her time in this cult, with her mother and ‘sisters’. This psychiatrist, Dr. Suzanne (played by Emily Deschanel), takes care of Mae and after a failed visit to a foster family, she gets custody of her.

Suzanne has one biological daughter and an adopted daughter, both of whom get the creeps from Mae right from the start. We as viewers do too, by the way, only Dr. Suzanne doesn't seem to see it completely. But it makes sense that Mae isn't entirely normal: every person would be traumatized if they grew up in some kind of satanic cult.

Or is there more going on? It's wonderful, such a thrilling series with different twists that you genuinely don't see coming. You really don't know what to expect. Mae could be traumatized and therefore different from her peers, or does she have a hidden agenda?

Yes, LOVE it. You have to watch this.
